SO-DIS/FA Brad/CS-9/SSSD Sovereign [12:49] If it is alright with you, Mr. Corroney, I wouldn't mind starting now [12:49] Sure [12:49] How many people are online in this chatroom right now? I'm curious [12:49] * K-Idanian sets mode: +m [12:49] 41 [12:49] 43 at the moment... [12:49] Cool [12:49] (2 are bots) [12:49] The Emperor's Hammer is very pleased and honored you welcome you, Joe Corroney [12:50] The membership would like me to thank you for taking time out of your day to come and talk with us. [12:50] Hey no problem. This is fun [12:50] For the first part of the interview, the channel will be moderated. Please messasge any questions you may have for Mr. Corroney to K-Idanian. [12:50] The second part, if Mr. Corroney is up to it, will be unmoderated and he may mingle with the members :) [12:50] Oh, and for the members of the Emperor's Hammer, please remember that all of our Codes of Conduct are in effect. :) [12:50] Mr. Corroney, our Fleet Commander is with us today. [12:50] GA_Ronin founded the Emperor's Hammer online group over eight years ago, and continues to lead this amazing group! [12:50] Sure [12:51] thanks, Keiran...and welcome Mr. Corroney [12:51] Im up for a little mingling after [12:51] it's a pleasure to conduct this interview with you [12:51] thanks [12:51] ...finally, I'd like to thank Mr. Corroney for the effort he put in to make it here today. We spent about 20 minutes trying to get his Mac IRC to work. He really did a great job! :) [12:52] Mr. Corroney, when you have completed answering a question, please type -fin- :) [12:52] * COL_Stele has quit IRC (Signed off) [12:52] Thanks Kieran. I've never used an IRC before but i'm not tottally computer illiterate. I've been doing alot of digital artwork on my Mac for years now :) [12:52] ok [12:52] I guess the first question has to be, which Star Wars movie do you enjoy the most and why? [12:53] good question... hard question [12:53] My favorite one has to be a New Hope [12:53] * Sterling` is now known as Sterling [12:53] It has the best balance of them all I think. Empire looks the greatest.. [12:54] * CalornXX has joined #emperor's_hammer [12:54] it is the most artistic, best directed, best written movie but A New Hop is more fun to me [12:54] Though I can't wait for AotC on DVD so that will be my new favorite I think -fin- [12:55] Do you believe any of the Star Wars movies should be changed in any way? Or do you think something should have been different - in your point of view? [12:55] by the way, i'm not the best typist so sorry about the misspells [12:55] don't worry, Mr. Corroney. :) [12:55] * Selth has left #emperor's_hammer [12:56] Well, all the SW films have their major and minor problems, most notably dialogue or acting but for better or worse these are George Lucas' stories. His visions. [12:57] He doesn't ask us to love them sop much, we just do because they are great films, and because they can feel so personal to us we can be critical i suppose [12:57] * `Alucard has joined #emperor's_hammer [12:57] but i wouldn't change anything about them really personally [12:57] I love them all and think the positive merits of each SW film outweighs the negative aspects -fin- [12:58] (please msg all interview questions to K-Idanian) [12:58] GA Ronin would like to know: How closely do you work with LucasFilms when you do your work...do you collaborate daily, weekly, monthly, etc. ? Does LF just review and approve your work or do they get involved with day to day stuff ? [12:58] I know that sounds like a brainwash answer so my LFL implant must be kicking in ;) [12:59] * Dash- has joined #emperor's_hammer [12:59] * LilHawke has joined #emperor's_hammer [12:59] * ltflchris has joined #emperor's_hammer [12:59] I work with LFL on a per prject basis. Most often I'mworking through a licensee like Wizards of the Coast or Paizo Publlishing so they are the middle persons. [13:00] Though when I was creating art for Holonet early this year I was woking with LFL directly on a daily basis for over three months [13:01] I still have lots of contacts there and keep in touch with folks at the Ranch for reference purposes whether I'm doing stuff directly for them or a licensee -fin- [13:01] * MAJ_RazoR has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:01] LOL...don't forget to tell GL how much you love our club...hehe [13:02] FA Brad would like to know: How did you get started in your artistic career and what do you credit to be your best support? [13:02] (shameless plug) [13:02] well, i'm so low on the LFL foodchain I've never actually spoke to ole Uncle George -fin- [13:03] * `Kerrigan has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:03] * X sets mode: +o `Kerrigan [13:03] * CalornXX has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [13:03] * LilHawke has left #emperor's_hammer [13:03] * Bi|bo has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:03] I go started early. Right after I saw the first SW film in 1977 my mom bought me myfirst comic book, the Star Wars movie adaptation from Marvel. That inspired to just start drawing more in general. [13:03] * ltflchris has left #emperor's_hammer [13:03] * Madon-DVD has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:04] I was then going to art lessons on the weekends and took art in high school pretty seriously. I knew i wanted to go to an art school and pursue illustration as a career. [13:04] * RexalQel has quit IRC (Ping timeout) [13:05] as soon as i graduated art college with my BFA in Illustration in 1996 I ended up freelancing as an artist for West End Games on their SW rpg. That's where the real work in my career started. -fin- [13:05] It interesting how you loved art when you were little. Sometimes people grow out of their love when they grow [13:06] _-Mage-_ would like to know: do you have a favorite Star Wars species [13:06] * _-Mage-_ has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [13:06] * LilHawke has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:06] My folks were really positive about supporting anything I loved at that age. I was also a big SW freak when i was that little so they were constanly spoiling me with SW toys lol [13:06] * Vortexian has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:06] lol. Gotta loce the big Star Wars room! :) [13:06] * _-Mage-_ has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:07] so the positive support in my hobbies really helped me to not lose interest in drawing. [13:07] Let's see favorite SW species... [13:07] I love Wookiees :) [13:08] if i knew what species Yoda was I would say that species but oh well -fin- [13:08] They never released that... I'm not sure why. I jsut call them the Yodas. :) [13:09] frmo Isojalka: What he think about SW-shortfilms what are not made by Lucas Film? [13:09] * Genno has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:09] * CM_Curtis has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:09] * Krayt has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:10] * `Kerrigan has quit IRC (Quit: eyy, would you like lemon or lime with that piece of advice mister?) [13:10] * `Kerrigan has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:10] i think there's the only really a few short SW films that are good. I love short films though and used to make them myself while in college so I know what goes into them and appreciate them. Let's just say though that not every person with a camera and editing software *should* be making movies. [13:10] * X sets mode: +o `Kerrigan [13:11] hehe...how true [13:12] I've met kevin Rubio, love Troops, he's a nice guy. But some of others I've seen get al ittle cliche. How many short films with Jedi and Sith wtih double bladedlightsabers do we to see? :) -fin- [13:12] * Madon-AFK has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out) [13:12] * Madon-DVD is now known as Madon-AFK [13:12] GA Ronin and myself would like to know: Do you need permission from Lucasfilms (or a licensee) to conduct these type of interviews ? [13:12] * `M has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:13] * LilHawke has left #emperor's_hammer [13:14] Like I said, I'm so low on the foodchain they probably wouldn't care one way or another about me doing these interviews, thuogh i do have to be careful in what I say in regards to any current projects I have in the works. I do have to get permission when a fan magzine wants interview or publish my work though.-fin- [13:15] * LilHawke has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:15] From MAJ_Auto: Would you be willing to create a graphic of the EH's Fleet for us? [13:15] * HA_Royal has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:15] * X sets mode: +o HA_Royal [13:15] lo [13:15] * swhermann has left #emperor's_hammer [13:16] * Lt_Kuro has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:17] * Lee|busy is now known as Lee|afk [13:17] Hmmm... not sure about that one ;) I wouldn't mind if I had the time but i get requests for doing artwork for fans all the time. It usually falls into my commissioned work at that point. I'm really not into just making 'graphics'. I can do that kind of work using freehand or Illustrator programs but prefer more involved illustration. [13:18] And I do accept commission assignments so if you'd like me to illustrate for you check out the guidelines at my official website, www.joecorroney.com -fin- [13:18] I'll check into it...!...:) [13:18] Great! [13:18] as long as ya don't charge an arm and a leg...:) [13:18] It really depends on what you want. [13:18] DS_away would like to know: What Star Wars Projects did you work on so far? [13:19] I tend to be fleixble and reasonable with my rates I believe -fin- [13:19] excellent..thanks [13:19] I've done about 10 or 12 SW books for West End Games including some unpblished work for them. [13:20] * _-Mage-_ has quit IRC (Signed off) [13:20] I've illustrated for about 7 issues of SW Gamer magazine. A few RPG products for WotC, Holonet News for LFL last summer, recently and issue of SW Insider.. [13:20] ...encluding The Rebllion Era Sourcebook and the new Power of the Jedi Sourcebook. :) [13:21] and various SW fan magazines as well -fin- [13:21] * Cypher has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:21] That's right Kieran. Those were really fun projects, especially the PotJ Sourcebook. [13:22] They are nice pictures. I saw them in the book and on your website! :) [13:22] I was wondering who is your favorite Lord of the Rings character? [13:22] Thanks again. I actually go to illustrate my own Expanded Universe character for those pieces. he actually first appeared in an issue of SW Gamer and I used him again for PotJ SB [13:23] Hopefully, I'll get to include him in some other projects eventually -fin- [13:23] * Lt_Kuro has left #emperor's_hammer [13:24] It's a tough call between Aragorn and Gandalf. They both were played so amazingly by the actors. -fin- [13:24] * Zhaim has left #emperor's_hammer [13:24] I agree. I loved Fellowship! I'm really looking forward to Two Towers! :) [13:24] * `D-Report is now known as `Destavol [13:25] Two Towers does look really good! [13:25] About your Expanded Universe character... Did you create him through RPG or writing? [13:25] * Isojalka has quit IRC (Ping timeout) [13:26] I created him just for an illustration where I needed to include a Jedi. The scene was pretty much left open to interpretation for me so I could include any kind of heroic characters I wanted. This was for the game article called 'Kashyyyk in Flames' for SW Gamer #4 [13:28] My good friend who builds professional SW props and weapons and is a costume designer made his own lightsaber and Jedi outfit so I used him for my model reference for the painting. He also happens to be my webmaster of my official site. Then I named his character Kai Justiss and thus a new EU character was born :) -fin- [13:28] Cool! I made by own lightsaber and tunic as well. It looks pretty good. :) [13:29] * Isojalka has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:29] AD Mell Kerrigan would like to know: do you get "artists block" so to speak and how do you overcome this? [13:29] That's cool! [13:31] Yeah, unfortunately there is such a thing called artist's block and I know it all too well. Usually, I find I have to sometimes just step away from my drawing table for awhile, go see a movie, read some comic books, maybe watch some bad TV or play my X-Box, maybe listen to music. All of these things usually end up taking my mind off something frustrating project wise and usually end up re-inspiring me. -fin- [13:31] * HA_Royal has quit IRC (Quit: sorry for interruption bye) [13:31] * ch-afk is now known as CorranH [13:31] * `Alucard is now known as Al-Away [13:31] * `Kerrigan notes to try it next time he gets frustrated whilst designing ;) [13:31] Isokalka would like to know: Do you play SW-games? What are your favourites? Games don't match exactly with movies. Comments? [13:32] I used to play the WEG SW rpg in college so i was really familiar with the products and mechanics of the game. i think that helped me secure work on a regualr basis from them. Most of the SW games I play now are the video games. [13:33] * Calvin has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:33] * LCM_Ace has quit IRC (Signed off) [13:33] I can't wait to get my hands on Bounty Hunter for GameCube (I own one of those too) or Jedi Outcast or KotOR. I guess you could say i *love* SW video games -fin- [13:34] :) They are sweet games! [13:34] I loved SZhodws of the Empire and Rogue Squadron and Rogue Squadron 2 [13:34] I'm thinking about getting into SW:RPG. I'm currently playing LotR:RPG. Do you believe it is worth the time to learn SW:RPG? [13:34] yeah! :) [13:35] * Linoge has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:36] Unfortunately I dont have time to play rpgs anymore because of my schedule. I usually only play video games to wind down at the end of the day for a few hours or maybe for a short break inbetween assignments or a project during the day. That's why i can get away with playing video games like i do ;) -fin- [13:37] any more questions? [13:37] A few... if that's ok with you. [13:37] sure! [13:37] LilHawke would like to know: who thought up the gungans? [13:38] I'm sure that was definitely a George Lucas decision :) [13:39] Though his team of artists and designers at the Ranch most likely influenced the look of those characters -fin- [13:39] LilHawke would also like to know: which movie/tv show you most enjoyed doing concept art or whatever for? [13:40] Star Wars all the way, LilHawke! I've had the most fun and have felt the most satisifed whenever I'm working on a SW project. [13:40] Nothing is more fun than creating or illustrating SW characters and stories for me -fin- [13:41] GA Ronin would like to know: what do you think of internet Star Wars fan/game clubs in general and the Emperor's Hammer in particular ? [13:44] I'm not real familiar with the fan websites centered around the games except for a few based on the SW rpg (since it pays to do research on what the fans like and what they want to see). Even though I keep my SW video gaming addiction more on a personal level. I think it's great that there are websites like yours for fans of the games out there to communicate and correspond through. [13:44] * CTXclr has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:44] * Lee|afk is now known as Lee|busy [13:45] Thats what makes anything about SW so great, it's usually a really positive experience whehter it's games or movies or books and there other SW fansites I like to visit regularly for those same reasons. -fin- [13:45] Isojalka: Can you stay in channel little longer and ... observe its activity ;) and can we send e-mails to you? [13:46] Sure, I can hang out for another fifteen minutes answering questions if you want. [13:46] * `Kerrigan has to leave... [13:46] Anyone can email me too. My email is joe@joecorroney.com [13:46] <`Kerrigan> good day everyone, thx for talking to us Joe! :) [13:46] Finally... Mr. Corroney, do you have any questions for us? [13:46] * `Kerrigan has quit IRC (Quit: eyy, would you like lemon or lime with that piece of advice mister?) [13:47] * `Destavol is now known as `D-F00d [13:47] What does everyone think of my SW art for WotC so far? [13:47] we love it ! [13:47] or for any of the SW projects I've done? [13:47] I really like the art! :) [13:47] It has a nice real look to it [13:47] * CorranH has quit IRC (Signed off) [13:48] i like the linedrawing look to it, its often harder to make something look as good in that technique [13:48] in the words of Vader Impressive most Impressive [13:48] Thanks guys. I guess the reason I'm looking for opinions is that I'm wantting to do even more SW art for WotC's SW RPG but havent had any work from them since January of this year. [13:48] Mr. Corroney...thanks so much for taking the time to meet with us...Btw, you have now earned the honorary EH Rank of "General" for conducting this interview...:) [13:48] as compared to paiting/airbrushing and such [13:49] I'd like to thank you again, Mr. Corroney, for making it to this interview. You had very well thought out answers! The members really appreciate it! [13:49] You really had a lot of patience getting IRC to work and you were a great sport about it! [13:49] You're more than welcome to stop back anytime! :) [13:49] Thank you very much for attending! I hope you had an enjoyable time! [13:49] :::RELEASE THE TIES!::: :) [13:49] * K-Idanian sets mode: -m [13:49] You know grand admiral Thrawn? He like study art and that way gather knowledge about his enemies and find weaknesses. [13:49] cool interview... [13:49] >4:1) [13:49] If they knew enough fans out there really enjoyed mywork they might call me more often for more assignments. I've been trying to get their attention lately but the new art director there isn't familiar with working with me. It's been hard to get his attention and get an assignment from him since my old art director SDean Glenn left the company. [13:49] yeah real cool interview [13:50] Thanks guys! [13:50] * `Malik has joined #emperor's_hammer [13:50] I have to go unfortunately, ...Joe, if you like Keiran can start up a petition with Lucasfilms ? LOL [13:50] I actually got to illustrate GA Thrawn for a new SW project recently! [13:50] bye ronin, take care:) [13:50] * AD_mBind salutes [13:50] Joe, I'm curious, what work have you done for Star Trek ? *ducks from the eggs* [13:50] Bye, sir... [13:50] * CM_Gelton salutes [13:51] Thanks Ronin. Maybe just some fanmail to WotC would be nice :) [13:51] enjoy the chat...we have some energetic members...bye [13:51] i like Star Trek, too [13:51] you got it ! [13:51] * `Mark salutes [13:51] Joe: You didn't answered to my question: SW computer/console games don't match exactly with movies. Comments? [13:51] * GA_Ronin has left #emperor's_hammer [13:51] I did work for the Star Trek RPG published by LUG [13:51] yeah Star Trek :) [13:51] * Cypher has left #emperor's_hammer [13:51] \\//| live long and prosper [13:51] Great timing Cypher! You missed whole interview :P [13:51] EH Members, please don't ask Joe many questions. We don't want to flood him. :) [13:51] <`M> she PARTED [13:51] i'm trying not to, sir [13:52] Oh :P [13:52] * Krayt has left #emperor's_hammer [13:52] The games are meant to be their own experience and for gameplay reasons, to make it fun and interesting for players they can't 'always' match the movies for those reasons I feel. [13:52] cya all I'm going.. [13:52] [13:52] ok Joe, thanks a lot for the whole interview, very informative ;) come back someday [13:52] Mr. Corroney, did you also did the second Men in Black or did they just use some of your pictures from the first one? [13:52] same on the rpg's really [13:52] I'll come back anytime you invite me :) [13:52] all the various games are made for game enjoyment more as accuracy [13:53] * Disconnected Session Close: Sat Nov 02 13:53:08 2002
