AUTHORITY IN EH ONLINE CONFERENCES (back to top)

Please be advised that the Fleet Commander has placed FULL command authority over the IRC EH-related channels and message boards in the more than capable hands of the Communications Officer.  In some instances, his edicts and commands may seem abrupt, strict and without cause to newcomers.  Rest assured that the EH IRC Codes of Conduct detailed below are being enforced ABSOLUTELY so as to maintain some semblance of order and maintain the EH's reputation in the chaotic, profane and often abusive online world.  Act with military style professionalism, honor, courtesy and honesty and you'll have no problems.  Become abusive, profane or insulting with the Emperor's Hammer Members and/or Officers (or other online "chatters") and risk losing rights to these "online EH privileges" (i.e. being "banned" or "k-lined" on the registered EH IRC Channels or banned from AOL Meetings).

However, despite all of these regulations, online offenses will occur.  Please be reminded that although our volunteer COMM staff will make every attempt to assist folks online, the Emperor's Hammer can NOT be held responsible for online chat comments, harassment, etc.   All we can do is enforce our own Bylaws with respect to membership in the club (i.e. typically the worst we can do is kick someone out a channel or the club who is harassing others online).  EH Members and visitors should remember that the online world is not always a friendly place and appropriate precautions should always be taken (i.e. don't give out home address, real name, telephone numbers, passwords, credit information, use of parental controls, etc.).

Remember, the Bylaws and Privacy Policy are in FULL effect in all online operations of the EH...

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER INTRODUCTION (back to top)

The IRC Codes of Conduct (CoC’s) are meant as guidelines and rules for behavior for ALL members of the Emperor’s Hammer club while on IRC or any other interactive medium.  These rules are to be enforced WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Holding a certain rank/position will not protect one from the enforcement of these rules. These rules have been created with the best interests of the Members of the club in mind. Our intention is to provide a fun and enjoyable environment for all who wish to participate.

-Communications Officer

Do NOT abuse ops or X/W access (back to top)

Abusing ops and X/W access consists of kicking or banning without reason or proper reason.   Changing the topic and channel modes unnecessarily also is considered abuse.   Members with the access to kick and ban should warn any offender at least once.   Certain situations may arise where it is accepted that a warning may not be given, such as a repeat offender or an immediate threat presents itself.

Penalty: First Offense - Suspension of ops access pending an investigation by the SO, COMM, and HI.

Do NOT nuke/ICMP/etc. anyone on or from the channel (back to top)

Nuking, ICMP and any other "warring" actions are NOT allowed AT ALL in an EH channel.   This denies the fun and enjoyment that can be had on IRC as well as being illegal on Undernet.

Penalty: First and any Offense - Banning from ALL EH IRC Channels for an indefinite amount of time.   Also the SO, COMM and HI should be notified of this offense so an investigation may be held.

Do NOT flood the channel or people on the channel (back to top)

Flooding is a large amount of text displayed in a short time.  This is not tolerated on any channel at all. Flooding members on the channel separately with text, pings or another way is also not tolerated.

Penalty: First Offense - Kick from the channel that is being flooded.

Further Offenses - Actions are left to the better discretion of the presiding ops at that time (within fair reason).

Do NOT bring clones on a channel (back to top)

Cloning is when another person enters the channel when they are already present having two (or more) copies of themselves on the one channel. This is allowed only in special cases with permission granted by the COMM only. Caution must be taken when dealing with clones as they may be ghosts.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Second Offense - Kicking of all clones and a 20min ban

Further Offenses - depending on the degree of the offense, a ban anywhere from 1 to 5 days may be issued for the clones.

Do NOT use auto-greets in any EH Channel (back to top)

Scripts or programs that automatically greet people are forbidden in any EH channel.  These are highly annoying to other members, and are not tolerated (see Annoying Behavior).

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning and the offender is asked to remove the script.

Second Offense - If the script is not removed or the warning ignored, a 10min ban will be issued.

Further Offenses - User will be banned from all EH Channels until the script can be removed.

Do NOT use unauthorized bots on EH channels (back to top)

All bots that are to be used on EH channels must be cleared by the COMM first. This means sending a copy of the script and any relevant information about the bot.

Penalty: First and any Offense - If an unauthorized bot is found in an EH channel, both the owner and the bot will be banned from the channel for no less than one day and no more than 1 week.

Do NOT impersonate an Officer (back to top)

On IRC, impersonating an Officer can be as simple as changing your nick to a rank that you do not hold, changing your nick to another persons known nick or completely changing all IRC information (ident, hostmask, etc.) as well as nick and pretending to be someone they are not.

Penalty: First Offense - Warning and a kick.

Further Offenses - Ban from the channel for no more than 1 day.

Note: The SO, COMM and HI should be notified if someone is caught breaking this rule.

Do NOT openly disobey a superior Officer or op (back to top)

If an op or a superior officer gives an order, kicks a person or sets a ban, they are not to contradicted or argued with in public.  If you have a disagreement with the order or action, speak to them in private.  If a superior Officer gives an order to a junior Officer, whether EH or IRC related, it must be followed.  The EH Command Hierarchy is still in effect on IRC and must be followed.

Penalty: First and any Offense - This is known as insubordination and is dealt with severely.   The violation of this CoC is to be directly taken up with BOTH the COMM and the SO for proper disciplinary action.

Do NOT over-use colors (back to top)

Colors on an IRC channel are considered bad "netiquette"; however sometimes they are allowed. Constant usage of colors and colors that annoy other members are not tolerated.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Penalty: Second Offense - Kick

Penalty: Third Offense - 10 min. ban

Do NOT be in a warez or sex channel (back to top)

This is an offense that crosses the morality barrier as well as international law.  As the Emperor’s Hammer is a respectable family club, we do not want our image tarnished by certain elements of Internet society being in our channel while on their channels.   Trading of warez is a federal offense in the United States as well as being illegal internationally.  Note this also includes MP3 (music) files pirated off the web or said Warez Channels.

Penalty: First Offense - Kicked, with the kick message asking the offender to leave the associated channel.  If violations persist, bans will be issued, increasing in time as the number of violations increase.

PERSONAL RELATIONS: (back to top)

DO respect others in the channel and their feelings (back to top)

When talking in the channel, be wary of topics of conflict or those that cause harm and hurt to a member of the channel.  If this is the case, then that topic of conversation is to be ceased immediately.  Offensive topics can be anything from music to religion to politics, so keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable with any discussion.

Do NOT insult others on a level external to Star Wars (back to top)

Insulting anyone on an EH channel that is not Star Wars related is strictly forbidden. This includes insulting on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc. Insults on a Star Wars level are allowed such as Imperials vs. Rebels, ‘nerf herder’ etc.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Penalty: Second Offense - Kick

Further Offenses - Ban of no more than 1 week

Do NOT swear (back to top)

Swearing of all kinds is forbidden in an EH channel.  Whether it be swearing in another language (English being the default language for all EH channels), concealed swearing or suggested swearing.

Penalty: First Offense - Warning, asking the offender to cease the use of such language.

Penalty: Second Offense - Kick

Excessive use of improper language will result in a kick and/or ban as well as further disciplinary action.

Do NOT annoy people in the channel (back to top)

As different people have different annoyance levels, it is up to the discretion of any present ops or "sub-ops" as to what action is to be taken and when.   Someone can be considered annoying when a person or persons are disgusted with the person's behavior, actions or conversation.  Repetition of statements, constant complaining, or rants are considered annoying behavior.  Excessive use of sound clips, using repeating auto-away or auto-greet messages, and speaking in foreign languages fall under this category as well, but hold different penalties.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Penalty: Second Offense - Kick from the channel

Further Offenses - Ban of no more than 1 hour

Do NOT idle for extreme amounts of time (back to top)

Idling, or sitting in the channel not participating in conversation for more than eight hours, gives the impression of inactivity, also in the case of a netsplit or Cservice errors, it prevents the Command Staff and Subgroup Commanders from obtaining ops to police the channel.

Penalty: Idling for more than 8 hours will result in a temp ban (this is to try and block clients that auto-rejoin when kicked).  As idling is not a behavioral offense nor does it in any way significantly hurt the operation of the Undernet or its associated channels, no further actions will be taken.  This is to prevent people from "sleeping" in an EH channel.

DO help all other members in the channel whenever possible (back to top)

Being one of the most popular channels on Undernet, and having many members of all ages and walks of life, there will be people who need help in some way coming into the channel, whether it be EH or IRC related.  All members are encouraged to help other members of the channel whenever possible.

Note:   While there is no stated penalty for the breaking of this rule, it is expected that all members will be helpful towards other members at ALL times.  If someone is found to be grossly ignoring this responsibility however, they could possibly be facing dereliction of duty charges.

DO be representative of all the Empire (back to top)

A member of the Empire is a well-respected person, with high standards, is honorable and extremely loyal. These qualities are to be extended onto IRC or whenever representing the EH or the Empire. In addition, any members of clubs with whom we are at war, and their allies are not allowed in any EH channel and are to be banned immediately. From past incidents, it has been agreed that the membership of these clubs and the EH be separated.

Logging of CoC Incidents: (back to top)

ANY AND ALL OFFENSES WHICH RESULT IN BANS MUST HAVE LOGS TO SHOW THE OFFENSE, AND THE OFFENDER (INCLUDING A WHOIS ENTRY).  THIS IS SO THAT WHEN SOMEONE INQUIRES AS TO WHY THEY HAVE BEEN BANNED, A REASON MAY BE PROVIDED.  THIS IS ALSO USEFUL FOR ANY INVESTIGATIONS BY THE OFFICE OF THE HIGH INQUISITOR, THE SECURITY OFFICER OR THE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER.

Reporting CoC Incidents: (back to top)

Any EH Members found to have violated the above will be given ONE email warning by the Security Officer.  A second offense/violation could result in a "court marshal" by the High Court of the Inquisitors in accordance with the Emperor's Hammer Articles of War, as administered by the High Inquisitor.
