The Logistics Officer
(LO) handles distribution of important Fleet Communiqués to the Members of the Emperor's
Hammer. In addition, the LO acts as Chief Archivist for the EH and is responsible
for maintaining duplicate copies of important Clubs files, newsletters, manuals, etc.
As chief archivist for the Fleet, the LO is responsible for
hosting/posting the Newsletters.
As much considerations, the Fleet Commander has decided upon the appointment of
VA Obiwan as the new EH Logistics Officer (CS-11). VA Obiwan is already
busy at work planning a schedule for our 10th anniversary celebration for
January 2005. I am sure VA Obiwan will do an excellent job as the new EH
Logistics Officer as well.

Here we go, the final list of Commendations of Loyalty. First,
congratulations to all of those who earned CoLs this time around. It's one of
the medals that is the hardest to earn and only comes around twice a year, so it
is an accomplishment. Now for the usual things I have to say. First, you will
notice many repeats of recommendations. If a Tie Corps pilot was recommended
twice for a CoL from the Tie Corps, an Imperial Advisor, or a Command Officer,
he will only receive one CoL on his profile. If a member was awarded a CoL from
the Tie Corps and from the Dark Brotherhood, he will receive both. If a member
was awarded a single CoL from a subgroup, it will not be placed on his Tie Corps
profile, only on that subgroup's profile.
Let me also mention that I am truly disappointed with this round of submissions.
Participation from Command Officers was barely anything. Many subgroups couldn't
find the time to send in a single recommendation, even though they were allowed
to have ten! Many of the e-mails I received had no PINs, and didn't have the
proper title. Simple directions that weren't followed. Also, many Commendations
of Loyalty were awarded outside of the chain of command. I won't point out
individuals, but if you see the list below, you'll be able to tell the
circumstances there. Let the FC, XO, and in their absense, myself recognize
high-ranking officers who have contributed to the EH. Let BGCOMs recognize COMs
and WCs. COMs and WCs should recommend at a maximum 2 of their CoLs to CMDRs. In
the best-case scenarios, only one from each wing should go to a CMDR. CoLs in
the Tie Corps should have FLs and FMs heavily populating the list. This medal
isn't just about recognizing achievement, it's about recognizing achievement by
those who would normally not get recognized with such a prestigious medal. Many
subgroups awarded CoLs solely to command staffers and high-ranking officers.
This is disappointing to say the least. I will expect a much higher quality list
of submissions the next time around or I simply won't accept them.

Overview
The position of Security Office requires a subtle balance of skills,
specifically in areas of negotiation, conflict resolution and gathering of
evidence. The Security Officer is responsible for the upkeep of law and order
within the Emperor's Hammer.
Selection Criteria – Essential
1. Good written communication skills
2. An acceptable level of presence in online media such as IRC, message boards,
etc.
3. Fast email response time.
4. The ability to work with a range of EH personnel, including the Executive
Officer.
5. Experience at some level of command.
Selection Criteria – Desirable
1. Prior or current experience in subgroups
2. Prior or current experience in a similar position
Addressing the Selection Criteria
When addressing the selection criteria, you must supply supporting evidence to
back up your claim of meeting the criteria. A generally accepted model is the
STAR model, where you outline a Situation, Task, Action and Resolution relating
to the criteria. You should meet at least the essential criteria to be
considered for the position.
References
You must include at least three (3) references in your application. At least one
must be a current or former superior (preferably current). Ensure you have their
permission first. If it is found out that you have used someone's name without
their permission, your application will be disqualified.
Performance Management
Performance will be evaluated in a number of key areas. These include submission
of reports, number of complaints from members, online conduct, achieving tasks
and duties outlined in the Training Manual, as well as tasks outlined in the EH
Tasks List for this position. Above average performance will be rewarded, while
below average performance, if continual, will result in removal from the
position.

I'm having Spat and Albin market them at DC as they are cool figures. They are
on ebay at the moment under Admiral Motti.
There is a custom retro figure unsigned but will be signed when sold and will
include the Japanese tour sticker from the 2001 Vader Motti tour. This is the
only one in the US and I would expect $150.00 - $175.00.
The other one is a Motti/Vader double pack custom on blue card made by the
Norwich UK Collecting club for Dave and I.
There are only four left and only two signed by both Dave and myself.
A double pack with just my signature got $175.00 at Wizards Philly this year.
I would really appreciate it if you could alert the Garrison as I'm sure there
are enough collectors out there who might want to bid.

Esteemed Officers, Shipmates, and Friends....
There comes a time that one must put their responsibilities into perspective.
The past few weeks I have been trying to juggle a new promotion at my RL job,
numerous other duties, as well as be a good leader to the IW. It isn't working.
The time that my new position in RL takes is now demanding more of my time, and
it would be unfair to the IW to have me continue to struggle with the task of
trying to be successful at them all. It is at this time that I announce my
retirement in all of my EH positions.
As much as this hurts, it must be done. Thank you to those who supported my role
as IWCOM, I could not have done it with out your help. I hope to return sometime
to play an active role in the IW again, so, save a line spot for me. ; ) To
those new to the IW.... keep active, have faith, and have fun and you will go
far.
Good luck to you all, and may you prosper greatly in your EH careers.
As my last statement, I wish to recommend Rear Admiral Daniel Hanson to be
assigned as the IW Commander. Hobbie has done a very fine job of leading the
MC-90 Renegade to a solid state of activity, and doing everything in his power
to make the group fun for the members. He would be a great IWCOM, and he has
earned it.

Greetings FC and XO,
I approach you today on behalf of the EH Directorate to recommend a promotion to
the rank of Admiral (AD) for our esteemed Grand Moff, VA Orzon. My reasons are
listed below.
Since, and even before, his appointment as GMF, VA Orzon has been instrumental
in managing the affairs of the Directorate. He is active every day, by email,
IRC and AIM to consult with all members. He handles matters quickly and without
delay whenever possible, and constantly pushes his officers in the Ministry
Council and Territories to be as active and involved with the Directorate as he
himself is. It has been a very long time since the Directorate has had such an
active GMF, and VA Orzon continues to build up the momentum of the Directorate
with each passing day.
Under his management as GMF, the Directorate for the first time has a training
academy that includes online exams, which has greatly cut down the turnaround
time for grading to 12-24 hours. Under his guidance I have been able to
personally help him in seeing the completion of many projects, including the
exam automating at the CDGI. In addition, the simulation platform "Diplomacy",
formerly knows as Supremacy, is nearing completion. The final draft of the
manual, all 70+ pages of it, are being drafted by the MoO, LEG Lammoth at this
time. Fortunately the revisions to the final draft are pretty minor, so the GMF
and I expect to see the final version of the Dippy manual within the week. In
addition, LEG Lammoth is working on the final parts of the Diplomacy gaming
site. The demos I've seen of the site so far are very encouraging, and all
together things are moving along much faster than VA Orzon and I had hoped with
regard to getting Diplomacy released this year. :)
I'd also like to point out that thanks to VA Orzon's leadership and continued
guidance, the DIR now has 5x as many members as it did when he first became GMF!
New recruits continue to pour in every week, this past week alone we had 7 new
recruits join, and 5 of those have already completed their training and are
already assigned and active within the Territories. All in all I am very
impressed with how quickly VA Orzon has managed to turn things around in the
Directorate, and for the first time in two years the DIR is very close to
finally having a website and database to brag about. Even after RA Monsh
resigned due to RL circumstances several people, myself included, jumped right
in and picked up different parts of the project to help move it along. At this
time we have a fairly new member that is working on completing the admin coding
and database interface so that we can bring the new database rosters and
profiles to life! The DIR has never been this close to having a completed
website and database in the past two years, and this is an area that VA Orzon
has continued to remain diligent in to ensure it gets done.
I can't fully express how pleased I, and many others, are with how VA Orzon has
worked as GMF. We've had our share of disappointments from previous GMFs that
promised so much, but delivered so little. In the time that VA Orzon has been
GMF he has accomplished far more than he even thought was possible, and
continues to plunge forward each day to see that things stay on track and are
accomplished. It is for these reasons, and many more that are too numerous to
mention, that I recommend a promotion to the rank of Admiral (AD) for Grand Moff
Orzon.

The Directorate is currently in need of a Minister of Communications. As the
Directorate Manual states:
Minister of Communication (MoC, MC-5): The Minister of Communication is in
charge of all the communication aspects of the Directorate. This includes the
main Directorate web page, the Directorate Message Board, and the Directorate
IRC Channel. He is also responsible for approving "official" Directorate web
sites.
Currently the Directorate has somewhat of a site built. The template is there,
but the rest must be done. We need all the coding for Administration, rosters,
news script, etc. Done. The old Minister of Communications step down leaving us
with what he has completed. The only stipulation about coming aboard is keeping
the current template. It would be ideal if the Minister of Communications would
continue to serve until he no longer has the ability to...so that when we have
updates, etc., they can be dealt with.

I've had a review session of the current batch of Command Officers and have
decided that some have deserved some sort of award. They are listed below in no
particular order:
Grand Order of the Emperor (GOE) to COO/AD Sarin - for his exceptional service
as COO to date, including the high placings of the EH in recent WoW events.
Admiral (AD) to TO/VA Drako - for his consistant service as Training Officer
and IWATS Dean so far.
Admiral (AD) to SDIR/VA Aseret - for her consistant work in running the EH's
intelligence services
Admiral (AD) to GM/VA Gelton - for his work in turning the Dark Brotherhood
around, organising a new vendetta and other items.
Well done to these four people. I'm hoping we can see more of this sort of
thing in my reports in the near future.
On the topic of reports, it seems time for another gentle reminder about
reports. Reports are to be completed weekly. The report is to be emailed to all
other COs (CS+SGCOMs) plus posted on the TIE Corps site too. This is a core duty
for all CO positions. I almost always use the reports posted on the domain when
reviewing COs for awards and so on, so it's really in a CO's best interests to
make sure their reports get on there. If, for some reason, you haven't been able
to post your reports, please let me know so we can get it sorted out.
The position of Logistics Officer is open for applications. You can check out

The three competitions I'm running will finish at the end of this month, so
you've got only a few days to get your entries in. All the competitions are
fairly easy and could be won by literally anyone in the EH. The URLs to the

There are three (3) new surveys on the TIE Corps site, relating to member's
intend towards Freeworlds, Jump to Lightspeed and Star Wars: Battlefront. Simply
login on the TIE Corps admin section and you'll be place your vote. Somwhat
related to this is Knights of the Old Republic 2. There's a new trailer out that
showcases the new world of Telos. The trailer is about 6megs and is in Quicktime
format. You can get it from the official site.

It would seem that some parts of the EH are going through a phase of rapid
improvement in terms of activity. We're seeing this with the recent WoW events,
where the EH has placed well in a range of platforms. Freeworlds is also also
picking up speed in the TIE Corps and seems well on the way to being a viable
platform. Well done to those who did the ground work for this, as well as the
members who have participated and made it happen.
The three competitions I was running have closed and the winners awarded. I'm
now running two new competitions:

Introduction:
150th Tactical Report, with some information :) Well, we've hit another
checkpoint, 100th XvT-TC battle has been released yesterday. Grats to all
mission creators and Tactical Staff. Also, I've received quite a few SWGB
submissions, so we will see them soon in EH Mission Compendium. But let's get
down to business...

I've received quite good response to my SWGB call. 5 applications were sent, so

100th XvT-TC
I don't know how long it took, but we have 100 XvT-TC battles online. I would
like to thank all mission designers for their hard work making all those
battles, and entire Tactical Staff, for their dedication, testing and
corrections. Let's hit 200!

As you can see my CA is working on corrections. Our goal is to fix all broken
battles and remove all bug reports. However new bugs may appear. Post bug report
if needed.
New TCC:TIE
With resignation of COL Beef we have hired new TCC:TIE. Congrats to Apophis Kuma.
And since TIE queue is basically empty his job will be correction of TIE bugs.
Submit more stuff!

Not much to report this week for the Fleet....
Sometimes you get thrown a bone, and sometimes you are the bone, and well, this
week I've been the bone, slammed in RL......
First off congrats to RA Stuart in being named the new COM of the ISD Challenge.
Next--please remind everyone that when requesting AWOLs or MIAs in the database
to include how long they've been inactive. I generally use this to determine if
they should be removed, or moved to the reserves.
IMPSTORM V is slated to begin on September 8th. Check the WO website for more
info!
FO Tasks
All complete except image reconstruction. If taken baby steps in terms of
helping with image of the fleet as a whole. After 9/7/04 I will have much more
time to devote to this.
Discussions for JTL have been ongoing, albeit a little slow lately. This will
also be a priority for me after next weekend.
Freeworlds is progressing. I ask everyone to remember that this is in its six
month TRIAL period, so be patient as we are still working out the kinks so to
speak.

Flight Office Report #48: 09.03.04

A slow week for the Tie Corps!
IMPSTORM V is set to begin on September 8, 2004. BGCOM's get your rosters etc in
to AD Pel ASAP!
The Star Wars original (before the prequel) movies are FINALLY being released on
DVD and slated to be out Sept 21st. Amazon.com has a 4 min trailer for it and it
is pretty amazing, the extras they've included. They've also added a sneak peak
for Episode III and its making. They didn't go into much detail on the trailer,
but you'll have to get the DVD boxed set to see it. Amazon has it for $41.00 USD
SWG:Jump to Light Speed is slated to be out September 24th. There have been
minimal discussions up to now on its implementation to the Fleet. GN Compton, we
need to get this rolling!
A few things about roster changes and requests:
#1) Everyone please try to remember that the Database has an automated removal
feature, so CMDRs, WC's etc can request automatic removal of pilots. It makes it
easier, and the DB can send mails out with the reasons etc.
#2) AWOLs--Don't just request a pilot be awoled. I like to see how long they've
been inactive, if their e-mail address is working etc. This does make a
difference as to where I remove them to, either Reserves, or simply just remove
them. Reserved pilots can access their profiles etc while removed pilots need to
contact me directly to be reinstated and to change things on their profiles.
#3) When requesting things to the Flight Office for changes etc, please remember
to include the pilots Pin numbers. This makes things so much easier to handle.
Many pilots don't go by the exact names they've chosen when they first joined,
so it makes it that much more time consuming to locate them, and if there are
several other pilots with the same name, then I need to go by e-mail
addresses....So use the PIN numbers!
FO Tasks:
Everything has been completed..Save for the image of the fleet. With the
inclusion of FW and eventually JTL, these platforms thrust us into the new arena
of MMORP games thus giving us a new facet to our club. In the next few weeks I
am going to think on this some more and get better ideas.

First I'd like to congratulate LC Turr for being named the new WC for Wing VII!
IMPSTORM V Has begun. Check out the war office site at

details. This is a massive war game held for members of the TC pitting BG
against BG.
I've processed quite a few new recruits into the system. There isn't one
specific platform they are choosing, so there should be an influx of new SL's
coming to our ranks.
I'd like each BGCOM to send me a revised list of squadrons in their groups that
are in need of SL's so I can update the cadet pages on my website
http://flightoffice.minos.net
I also need to touch on the transfer protocols I revised a while back. These
protocols are for transfers dealing with ship to ship and squadron to squadron.
Squadron CMDRs don't necessarily need the BGCOM's permission to change their
squadron around or move members within the squadron, however the BG SOP's should
be followed, and if the BGCOM requests that he is made aware then make him
aware!
For the TIECORPS news section, if anyone has anything they'd like posted, send
me a mail with what you want posted up there and I will get it done.
All in all another slow week, no problems that I've heard so keep up the good
work. I expect that IMP STORM will bring some activity to the fleet, so have
fun!

Flight Office report #50: 09.17.04
FA Cyric reporting in on September 17,2004 for the Flight Office
Well my 50th report as Flight Officer! I look back at this minor milestone in
reports, and take quick stock of my duties.
Through my tenure as FO, I've closed a few ships, some agreed some didn't,
closed a few squadrons, reopened a few more. Processed countless recruits,
reorganized some of the TC structure, and attempted to make it a more enjoyable
place for the pilots. Have I succeeded in handling my duties responsibly? Well
I'm still here :)
I look at this time as FO one of the most exciting as we've picked up two
relatively new concepts for the TC both set in the MMORPH genre, Free Worlds and
Jump to Light Speed. Free Worlds saw the opening of the ISD Predator, which came
a shock to many, however, it is vital for the experiment that we call Free
Worlds and our track in to the MMORPH. Yes there are many who may have done it
differently or done it "better" however, it is working and a few naysayers have
changed their tunes a bit.
Jump to Light speed is on the horizon. I am hearing fantastic news about the
game, though much of the juicy details are [edited] out due to some silly "keep
your mouth shut provision LA deemed necessary. JTL will pose many challenges for
the TC as it will actually cover two SG's with in the EH. There is also
opportunities to fly different class ships in the game. It could open different
flying categories for the TC, but I'll have to investigate more before any thing
else on this is said. We are looking at all possibilities for the TC in regards
to JTL and once the Beta is done and the game released, we will know more.
AD Protons Sovereign Squadron League comp is in its final round:

FA Cyric reporting in for the TC and the Flight Office on 9/25/04.
A fairly slow week for news. Star Wars has been released on DVD. The Features
Diskette is very cool. Plus there is a behind the scenes for Episode III.
Doesn't give up much, but looks to be a very cool movie.
For the TC alls fairly quiet on the battle front. Free Worlds seems to be doing
very well, with the EH apparently in the forefront in confrontations etc.
JTL, I have just been invited to the Beta testing and have been in minimally.
Can't go into detail, but it does look promising.
Just a note on behavior within the Messageboards and Mirc. I am encouraging
every member to keep a high level of decorum within these forums, against other
members and especially when dealing with Command Staff. While you may disagree
with some ideas, whole sale arguments and disparaging remarks against CS in a
public forum will be dealt with in the swiftest of manners as well as the HCI
being notified. Do not try me on this, as it WILL be handled judiciously.

First off I'd like to thank the FC and XO for elevating me to
the rank of Admiral and to congratulate the SDIR and the GM their promotions.
Also big congrats to the COO who was awarded the GOE.
Other big news is that the first class of the Top Gun academy is in its
midpoint. I'd like to announce names of the Top Gun instructors, cos I didn't do
it so far:
- GN Kaerner
- MAJ Tek Selkirk
- CPT Rax Von-Klug
Pilots taking part in the training are:
- COL Nightmare of Avenger Squadron
- LC Alec Qarni of Scorpion Squadron
Like it was announced before - IS-PW or IS-GW are waiting for them.
It is a trial class and that's why only two pilots are taking part in it. Also
there appeared some problems which will have to be solved before the next class
is started. These problems are also the reason why I've extended the said 2
weeks of training to ONE month.
I would like to congratulate our pilots who took part in recent WoWs. This great
achievement - winning WoWs on both platforms - asks for a recognition for these
pilots.
The coding for the Imperial University project is going forward. I will change
the name of this institution to Imperial Academy to not to interfere in the
Imperial University existing in the Senate.

At the very beginning I'd like to thank AD Alex for reccomending me for the CoL
award. It is my first CoL since year 2002, so it has a great meaning for me.
[New TOA and EH Library renovation]
CPT Werdna has resigned as the TOA last week. Because the Training Office has
many projects to be completed and I'm not able to do everything myself, I've
chosen a new TOA - Baron Slowbacca. His PHP skills as well as experience gained
in the BHG will for sure be a great support for me. His first task will be a
renovation of the EH Library, created by me long time ago. The new layout and
some coding were already done so I hope for a quick completion of this project.
It probably will use an ELS system and after it is done, the Library will become
a part of the Imperial University.
[Imperial University progress]
Works on the Imperial University, which is being builded on planet Ullyr, are
progressing faster than it could be expected. Last week's transport of workers
and technicians speeded everything up. Thanks to Baron Slowbacca from the BHG,
who has delivered some communications equipment, our main computer has been
linked to the Citadel. I'm still upgrading the XML parser and adding new
features. In the future all training facilities in other subgroups will be
connected with this one in the same way. Also, I've decided to change the
project's name. Since now it will be called the Imperial Academy. This change
will prevent mixing it with the Imperial University existing in the Imperial
Senate's body.
[New rule for competitions is coming]
Like I have announced shortly after my promotion to the Training Officer, I'm
going to require a RP background for both - flying and non-flying - competitions
(except trivias and some other which I will specify later). I still won't
enforce that rule for some time but you should start getting used to it. You can
expect me start denying comps which don't follow this rule within a month.

Competitions can't be longer than 3 (three) months. After that time they must be
resubmitted. Not properly dated comps will be denied.

CA:TO position is NOT open for applications and I'm not planning to open it

Operations Office Report #43: 09.20.04
News:
Good lord it's been a while since I've done one of these. Sorry for the time
lapse, but there really hasn't been much going on lately. On a side note,
September 11th marked my One Year Anniversary as Operations Officer. To all of
you doubters, that goes to show you that I am capable of actually holding a
command position. One year down, three to go until Howie's OPS reign is
unseated.
Freeworlds! I had fun for about a week, but now that all of our bases have been
taken away, the game has lost its luster. So, I went and ordered Battlefront.
Expect to see me online. Maybe I can run a dedicated server off of the
university connection. Mmm.
Brucmack is still nearly double the amount of medals ahead of the second-place
leader with over 1400 medals. Will someone try and catch him?
Not seeing as many custom uniforms lately...keep them coming please...
Tempest is, as always, accepting squadron patch submissions for uniforms.
Contact him for design specifics. Odin submitted a rather nice on this week.
New medal recommendation requirements were posted this week to EH.net. I will
start enforcing them immediately.
Medal Recommendation Requirements:
All MSE medals MUST include quantatative data, such as battles completed,
multiplayer activity, IWATS completed, communications activity, and medals
awarded to the pilot in that month.
I will no longer approve a MSE medal if it doesn't include the medals awarded to
the pilot that month and at least the general purpose of that medal being
awarded. I want to cut down on double-awarding. Please note that what I'm
specificially looking for are competition medals, web design medals, and things
along those lines.
Competition numbers must be included with every Iron Star medal
recommendations. There are no exceptions to this rule.
No merit medal may be awarded for any competition.
Commendations of Bravery are to be awarded immediately after a
pilot completes 30 missions. Any pilot who does so may request their CMDR to
award this medal. This is not out of line, it's just making your CMDR aware that
you have completed the required number of missions.
So, the ideal medal recommendation would look something like
this:

Another stellar month from one of our best CMDRs. He accumulated 476 points in
Top Dawg and that is a great achievement in itself. He maintains all his regular

As far as I can tell most of the subgroups are pretty much dead. I think they
have other issues to work on besides uniforms. I was happy to see that the DB
has a fine Lightsaber design script in place. Very easy to use.
In line with the above point, look at porting TTT to other subgroups
Tempest is more than willing to make a program for any subgroup that comes
forward. Just mail him!
Investigate the coding of an online version of TTT
This goal has been phased out, and will not be completed.
More regular processing of medals and online presence
Despite a recent thread on the message boards caused by a brief leave of

Greetings! I'm happy to report that my hiatus from the Recon Office duties has
come to an end. I finally have internet access at my house and I am able to
resume my duties. I'd like to thank the powers that be for the time and patience

***Lucasfilm Confirms SW TV Series***
Yesterday TFN was up in Los Angeles for the DVD press day sponsored by Lucasfilm
and Fox Home Entertainment. We are pleased to announce that Lucasfilm confirmed
officially a Star Wars television show coming in the future. They didn't comment
on setting (post-Episode III or post-Episode VI we would guess)or release
schedule (we expect Fall 2006). Either way - this is coming for sure!

the entire hour with Mr. Rose and covered a wide range of topics as Mr. Rose
usually does. There wasn’t a lot of information that hasn’t already been
covered, but there were some highlights that I found interesting.
The show began with clips from the Star Wars Movies, as well as some shots form
THX1138. The conversation moved to the fact that George has only done five films
in thirty-five years. George explained that after his divorce he spent his time
raising the children. He was semi-retired from directing.
A return to the childhood was the next topic. He explained, as we have often
heard him, that he was an underachieving kid. However, his parents had faith in
him, his father even said that he would be a “late bloomer”. Of course he
touched on his love of cars in his youth. When Mr. Rose got to the college years
there was an interesting revelation for me. It was not until his junior year in
college that he became interested in film. Once in film school at USC it was a
class in Film Appreciation that made him look at life. It also got him
interested in the storytelling aspect. Thought of himself as a photographer and
illustrator.
The conversation then jumped to the American Graffiti era. American Graffiti
was in his words going to be a documentary on the mating habits of American
teenagers. The story of how everyone would get together and sort of parade
around for the opposite sex. Only at this time they were doing this in their
cars. When it came time to screen AG studio executives said it was unreleasable.
In fact they were ready to move it to being a TV movie. But after several months
of further screenings the execs decided to release it.
Mr. Rose then talked about the direction Star Wars has taken George. In fact
even asked if Star Wars had diverted him from his original path. George said it
was actually THX that had done that. THX got him the opportunity to do a
feature. He didn’t expect to stay on the feature path, but American Graffiti
afforded him the opportunity to do Star Wars. He wanted to do a “Hollywood
Movie” with sound stages, costumes, make up, everything. Wanted to tell a modern
myth in the style of old mythology. George said that Westerns were the last
mythology in the late 50’s and early 60’s but they weren’t being told anymore
because current culture had changed the mythology.
He went back to storytellers around a fire. How values and expectations were
passed form generation to generation. By passing along wisdom in the form of a
story, it is more easily learned, rather than being in confrontational form.
Stories weren’t being told anymore. That is where George wanted to come in with
Star Wars, like the Saturday morning serials. You could see some and miss one
but still have the story. That’s why we came into star Wars at Episode 4.
George went on to say the Star Wars was the first of three and he was determined
to get the other two films done. Charlie then talked about Peter Jackson and
doing all three LOTR films at the same time. He asked if the Star Wars influence
help in getting them done. George replied probably not. It still was probably a
tough sell.
The conversation then went back to Star Wars and getting it made. George
saying that Star Wars was “experimental” at the time and Alan Ladd Jr. took a
risk in letting him do it. But Mr. Ladd said that he was investing in the talent
not the film, in part because he didn’t understand the film. This segued into
George’s influence on the technology of filmmaking. He said that the artist will
manipulate the situation to get what they want, to get the vision made. Art is
technology, but art is a human endeavor. Art is expressing emotion. He used the
example of seeing a rose and then trying reproduce the rose to give someone else
the same feelings you had when you saw it. He likened filmmaking to painting
frescos. You have the artist in the front, but then you have this enormous
support group behind the scenes, mixing the paint and making sure it dries
properly.
Star Wars returned to the topic at hand again. George said that he didn’t like
75% of what HE saw when star wars was done. When the opportunity came to revisit
them and make what he called very minor changes, he jumped at the chance. He was
very happy with the film after the changes. Then he went on to talk about the
creation of Yoda and making him believable. He couldn’t tell the warrior part of
the Yoda story because the technology just wasn’t there. He needed more
storytelling power. The technology portion of things was ending up when Charlie
asked about George’s place in moving technology forward. In talking about the
change from photochemical to digital imaging, George said, “I will get a
footnote mention in the discussion of the change from photochemical to digital
photography”.
Charlie again went back to weather Star wars had kept George from doing other
things. George said that he wants to do other movies, but that star wars is ALL
consuming. He is now being released from that obligation. There will be NO MORE,
there no reason to do more! He said he has some things lined up. A film on the
Tuskeegee Airmen that he has been trying to get dome for some time. TV shows, he
loves TV as a medium. Also to go with the Young Indy DVDs, he’s working on 100
documentaries dealing with historical people and places in the Young Indy
series.
He also talked about where he was in his life with regard to doing
things. He can do things now without any input from a studio. He can do it and
sell it, if someone likes it and wants to buy it, fine. If not, that’s fine as
well. Talked again about how the Star Wars $$$ went into Empire, which went into
Jedi……….
Charlie then moved the conversation to how he shoots. George said he likes to
shoot for about sixty days and then come back later after having looked at the
film and shoot for an additional ten days or so. He likened it to doing a sketch
and then layering on the color to produce the final painting. During this
portion of the conversation he also talked about Francis Ford Coppola and their
relationship. George said in the beginning it was more mentor and mentee, but
now it was more family, older brother, younger brother.
Charlie then went in an odd direction and asked if George thought the two
presidential candidates should get together and watch Star Wars because of the
lessons to be learned. George said that everyone should go back and read these
same messages that Shakespeare touched on. Power and understanding what to do
with that power. He goes on to say that is all about education. Math and Science
are the how, but humanity is the why. We need to teach more humanity. To go off
and do something with the how and not understand the why is foolish. You can go
through history and find example after example of that. Here’s the how but we
don’t understand the why. People who are going to lead should read some of the
great literatures.
Finishing up, George was talking about his Educational Foundation. It helps to
facilitate high technology in schools. They then make documentaries on how this
technology is being used and how it works for the school.
It was a good hour to watch, and it went by very quickly. If you have a
chance to catch it, you should. Check your listings. Some areas may be off by a
day. I believe those in the Dayton OH area may be able to catch it on Think TV14
on Friday.

Wars DVDs. We've seen it, and while it is definitely just the tip of the iceberg
of the archival footage, you wan't want to miss it!

Greetings! Time for the Recon Office Report, 52nd Edition. ;)
First up, how many of you have seen your new glorious trilogy more than twice
already? Yeah that's what I thought. :P So have I.
Apparently so have most of the other fans out there. The Star Wars trilogy has
broken major records as well as Star Wars Battlefront for sales in a single day.
Around $115 Million if I remember correctly. That's a LOT.
I haven't gotten to the bonus disk, someone tell me how it is.
Now, as far as SW Battlefront PC version is concerned, The Force.Net has
reviewed it and that piece is below. I did not have the install problem like a
lot of people have had, but I did have some playing problems such as the maps
are too small, the controls for the fighters are really screwed up and hard to
control, and there are way too many players for that small of a map. But besides
that, it's fun and I'm still getting used to it.
Anyways, on to other things. I'm still waiting on an email interview. I'm
surprised it hasn't been returned yet (half the reason why I was late with this
report).
I've fired off an email to LucasArts about a fan booth for the EH for
Celebration III. The booth is free of charge but I will need people to man the
booth. It's a four day event, so if your going to be there, LET ME KNOW! It will
probably be a two hour "Tour of Duty". More on that in later reports.

**TFN Reviews Star Wars Battlefront**
Many people have been looking forward to Star Wars: Battlefront as much as
KOTOR2 and even more than Republic Commando. Finally Star Wars will have a worth
Battlefied game to compete with other classics. But does the game live up to the
hype?
I am a veteran player of almost all the battlefield games. Operation Flashpoint
is considered near-perfect in my world. The graphics are not as flashy as the
newer games but the game play is awesome. Battlefield 1942 is more "arcade" but
the maps have a good balance of cover, open field, and strategic points.
When I realized that Pandemic was also involved in making the great (but too
short) Full Spectrum Warrior, I was really hoping for a similar game that would
require squad level tactics.
Installation
Unfortunately, SWB got off to a VERY bad start with me. The installation process
did not go well and in fact, had it not been for another player on the LucasArts
forums, I would only be writing an article on Battlefront Installation problems.
The first time I tried to install the game, I got a Wrong Label error. I
tried to put another disk in the drive and click continue but the installation
just stalled the computer. I shut down the computer and restarted.
On the second attempt, I finally got to the last CD but the install hung while
trying to copy yav1.lvl in data5.cab . It seems a lot of other players are
having the same problem as well. I first tried to copy the contents of Cd#3 to
my harddrive so I could install that way but data5.cab will not copy. The file
on the disk is corrupted. This is not looking good for LucasArts. I am hoping
this is not going to be another "creative decision".
A temporary fix is to close out of the installation, then open the game
directory and find the Battlefront.exe file (not the BFLaunch.exe). Create a
shortcut to this file on your desktop and the game will run. However, I do not
know what files are missing from the rest of the data5.cab . The more permanent
fix is to take the game back for another copy. Let the retailers know that some
of the disks are corrupted and to expect some angry fans. I am returning my copy
to Wal-Mart this afternoon and will try to reinstall using (hopefully) a
non-corrupted copy of CD3.
Using the temporary fix, I was able to play the game for several hours. The
game menus have a cool 3d angle to them and I jumped in Instant Action. My first
mission was Hoth (as Imperial). I played as the AT-AT driver, relentlessly
marching to Echo base. Speeders screamed by and stupid Rebels on Tautauns tried
to attack me in vain. The main cannons are very slow but nothing survives a
direct hit. The graphics in the vehicles are not very exciting but the joy of
crushing friend and foe under my giant vehicle's feet made up for it.
However, the data display does have some issues. LucasArts, please allow us
to read data in numbers, not health bars. The action is too fast and it is often
too difficult to scan your health, the health of your vehicle, and your weapon
status. Some fans may like the bars but give us a choice to use percentages or
something else with numbers on them.
This is the same issue on Multiplayer. We don't like bars to determine the
ping. There is no indication what 2 bars, 3 bars, 4 or 5 bars actually mean for
ping numbers. If 50 or less represents 5 bars, that would be good information to
know. Again, how about the ability to change all bars into raw numbers. The
multiplayer menu also needs a filter. The first servers to show up are all 1 red
bar. I don't want to see those servers. The lack of a filter in the game does
not affect gameplay so should have been an easy task to complete. This appears
that the game was very rushed and expected items with a lower priority were
never finished. Also, turn up the FPS in multiplayer. The 15-20 FPS cap is
irritating a lot of players. Multiplayer is going to keep your game on the
market for a long time (just look at Half Life).
One of the great things from 1942 was the size of the maps. Yes, it made for
long treks by grunts to hike the trail to the battle (that is why you always
found a ride) but it also made the game a lot better for air units. Far too
often in SWB, I was threatened for desertion for leaving the battlefield because
my Tie Fighter or Droid Fighter went straight for a short 5 seconds. The maps
need to be larger when air units are involved.
I have bashed the game around a bit but is it fun? You bet. But let me put a
caveat on that statement (if you play the right maps). Some of the levels are
great (Endor, Tattooine Desert, Naboo-Theed, Geonosis) but some are quite boring
(Kamino, Naboo Plains) and others are both (Hoth, Kashykk). I played Endor this
morning and enjoyed racing the speeder through the forest at top speed while
dodging trees, rocks, Ewok traps, and friendly units. The Endor map works
because it offers cover for troops but also open area for vehicles. The map is
not large but walkers and speeders don't need the room like TIEs and XWings. The
best vehicle has to be the Republic's LAAT. They are a lot of to drive but the
firepower will make your droid opponents scatter. My favorite character has to
be the Droideka. The shield generator allows for extra punishment and the
cannons make short work of most Clonetroopers that get in the way. However, the
droideka shield should be a little more powerful (one grenade should not destroy
it) and the arms should be moveable up or down to fire down on units over
railings.
Conclusion
The game does not have a polished feel to it. It seems rushed out the door to
match the DVD release. I am going to play the game and I am very hopeful that
LucasArts will:
1. not release a game again with this many problems
2. give Battlefront priority and not delay fixes because they are busy on
KOTOR2, Galaxies, Republic Commando or Mercenaries
3. Quickly give the SWB fans the tools to modify and improve the game.
They will also need to tweak some of the units in the game but this is expected.
Grenades do a lot of damage. The rockets launcher is too accurate for its
strength. It should be affected by gravity a lot more (like the bazooka in
1942).
With all the issues with the game and the quirks of the display, I would have to
give the game a C+. If LucasArts quickly gets on the ball and puts out an update
for the health bars, the multiplayer menu, the Multiplayer FPS, better maps for
air units and cover for ground troops and replaces those corrupted disk 3, this
grade could easily be a B+ or even a A-.

GM Report #12: 09.03.04
1. Biggest news this week is probably the resignation of my
Deputy Grandmaster Keldorn Cochrane. He felt that the growing duties in this RL
job were too infringing on his duties as DGM. Therefore he decided to step down
and give someone else a shot at the position. I want to thank him for the work
he did during his term as DGM and wish him the best of luck in his future
endeavors.
2. With Keldorn's resignation I am in need of a new DGM. In the past days I had
various conversations with a few people who I considered qualified for the
position. I have now reduced my list to two candidates who I will present to GA
Ronin and SA Astatine in a request for approval mail as soon as my lazy mail
service is working again. You might ask why I send in two candidates. Pretty
simple, the RoS is standing on my doorstep and I need a new DGM as fast as
possible. Hence I will submit two candidates just in case my first choice gets
denied so I don't have to resubmit my alternate choice which would take extra
time.
3. My TC persona was promoted for my work as Grand Master in the past two months
to the rank of full Admiral. Many Thanks again!
4. As the Headmaster already wrote in his report last week the position of
Obelisk Trainings Pontiff is open for applications. So far no one at all applied
for it . Since I consider this a very important position I put this in my report
here in the hope to reach a greater audience.
The Obelisk Trainings Pontiff is in charge of mailing the
Obelisk Initiates on the list, invite them to start heir training, offer them
help and in the end grading their Phase II test. Since there are quite a few on
the Initiate list now and fortunately there are still more joining almost every
day, this job involves a lot of mailing and constant attention. Whoever will be
the Pontiff he will be the first member those Obelisk Initiates will meet in the
DB and therefore he needs to be polite, patient and well informed to make a good
impression on them. His work can decide if an Initiate will end up active in a
Clan or become a roster corpse on the INT list.
Due to this importance of the position the HM and I agreed that
the Obelisk Trainings Pontiff along with the other two for Krath and Sith will
work under the joint supervision of the Headmaster and me the Grandmaster. That
includes unlike the other Pontiff positions writing a weekly status report to
both of us about how many Initiates have been mailed, if there was a reply and
what their status is.
I know a lot of work for seemingly a mere Pontiff position but it is an
essential part in getting the DB new active members. Rest assured if the job is
well done adequate rewards will be handed out by me and the Headmaster. Anyone
who is member of the Obelisk Order can apply to HM Daniel Goad via mail.
5. Having spoken about the job of a Trainings Pontiff I want to adress the
matter of recruitment people into the Clans and Houses.
There is for once the matter of recruiting from other Clans,to
which I have become more and more witness in the recent past. Although it is not
right out stated as forbidden no attempts should be made in that direction since
it only endangers the peace between the Clans and causes bad blood. Therefore I
hereby announce that Inter Clan recruiting is henceforth officially to be
considered taboo and whoever will be accused of it will have to explain himself
to me personally.
For the other there is the Initiate recruitment by house and
clan members. This would be under normal circumstances no problem and encouraged
. But with the membership count of some of the Houses right now these are no
normal circumstances. In order to ensure the survival and the future growth of
the low member houses the flow of the Initiates needs to be tweaked a bit. The
job doing so have the above mentioned Order Trainings Pontiffs , one for each
Order. They are ordered to be neutral and to neglect the affiliations and
interests of their houses and have to try to convince undecided Initiates to
join low member houses so they finally can start building a member basis again.
However if an Initiate knows exactly where he wants to join he of course can do
so.
I know every house wants to get new and more members and wants
to be the biggest house of the Order or the DB but having only a limited amount
of Initiates at our disposal there are Houses which are in more need of new
members than others. In times like these the Clans and Houses should show
solidarity with each other and don't envy each other every new member. So you
master recruiters from the big Clans step back a bit from the INTs that have
already joined and let the Trainings Pontiffs do their job.
Of course outside people who haven't joined yet are still free prey to everyone.
6. All recommendations for the DB CoLs are in and wait to be sent out by me to
the OPS. That will be done, you guessed it once my mail account is back in
action.
7. Due to the current unavailability of my mail account, this report won't be
sent over the DC and Clan Summits list as usual right now, but when I can send
mails again.
<CENTER>~ Competitions ~
Due to the resignation of Keldorn some of the RoS preparation tasks given to him
have been reassigned. But I don't expect any delays due to that so expect the
RoS happening in about 2 weeks from today. Some Clans already have started to
hold trainings sessions to prepare their members for the big event, good
initiative from the respective Consuls.
As for progress work has now also begun on the Obelisk materials
for the RoS. The website is also work in progress now done by the HM instead of
the DGM. A new and extented set of plotline/background/descriptions has been
sent by me to the DC for comments. More updates in my next report.

Clan summit elevations are announced in my report as well.
- Select Shadow Academy course results - delegated to the HM report as outlined
in the DC task list.
That means these tasks have been addressed, are currently executed and
constantly minded by me and the other DC members every week.

~ Tau Squadron ~
Welcome to a new section of my report. Here in the future I will write about
news and events concerning Tau Squadron. For all who should be unaware of the
fact, Tau is the DB Elite Squadron and my personal Bodyguard. They are
exclusively focusing on MP Flying and are taking part in events like the WoWs.
In the past the ties between Tau and the DB have loosened and it was considered
more and more a sole TC elite squad. In order to bring Tau more back into the
fold of the DB I decided to give it a higher profile in the DB such as this
section in my report. There are other ideas to bring Tau back more into the
conscience of the DB but those are still in the discussion between me and the
Tau Commander GN Kaerner.
This week I have only one news item about Tau but an important one. Sith Warrior
Brian from House Ronin a.k.a Tek Selkirk and member of Tau has placed first in
the latest WoW on the individual ladder. With that he already won a WoW the
second time in a row ! Masterfully done, my congratulations and acknowledgement.

News:
This will be a rather short report for my standards since I am in the middle of
the last preparations for the Rite of Supremacy and it's started to get really
hectic.
So my only news post this week is as you probably all know by now that I have a
new Deputy Grand Master. It is Sith Warlord Drak from Clan Scholae Palatinae.
Why I chose him and none else I already elaborated in a news post but I will put
it in here once more:
"There is yet another appointment today I can anounce to you. It is the
appointment of my new DGM. I now got both approvals from the FC and the XO so I
can present you my choice now. It is former Sith High Warrior SWL Drak, the
first one after the Split.
Some of you including the DC itself might ask "Why not one of the current DC?"
Well in order to prevent that I have to answer the same question over an over
again, I will share my thoughts with you here. The reason is the upcoming Rite
of Supremacy. All DC members who would have come in question for becoming the
new DGM are so involved in the preparations of the RoS and working on their
assignments that moving them and replacing them with someone else only would
have caused major delays and it would have become impossible to hold the
intended deadline. Since the RoS is the most important project above all else
right now I decided to keep all current DC members in their places to ensure no
break in the work flow.
Now others again might ask "why no Consuls?" Well as some of you know I had a
Consul in mind for the job but that didn''t work out. As for the others, they
are way too much vital pieces for their Clans to be removed at this point of
time , again , because the approaching of the RoS, without hurting the given
Clan there.
So why Drak? Well, also here the RoS played a role. I knew I needed someone who
already had DC experience and knows how the ball bounces there, since I wanted
someone who could start working on the RoS and the EoF right from the start and
didn't need time to get his directions first. As SHW Drak already organized
comps on order level and created an IP system on the same level. So doing both
now on DB wide level was in my opinion just the next step for him. He also was
only a BTM until now so I hadn't to pick him out of the leadership pyramid where
he would have left a hole to fill. Those were my main reasons why I
picked him, I hope that clears matters for most of you up.
I am confident he will do an excellent job since I already had the chance to
work with him on the RoS in the past days and we make good progress there in
important sections."

Competitions:
1. The Rite of Supremacy is coming and it's coming soon. In order to finally
give you an idea it is September 17th ... +/- 2 days, so let's say somewhere
around the weekend after this one. I can't give you any more exact dates since
there are still some parts missing and it is outside my influence as to when
exactly they will be available to me.
2. In the past days Drak and I finished general description, background, history
bits and location descriptions. The only fiction part that is missing still is
the Rite Intro itself on which I am writing myself for two days already and
which I hope to finish over the weekend. Apart from that we were able to hammer
out a scoring system we deem fair that will be shown to the Order Leaders for
review over the weekend. The general events are nearly finished. With the Order
Leaders doing a finishing sprint we probably will be
able |
