MISSION COMPENDIUM. The Mission Compendium is coming along. Projected
release date is two (2) weeks from the date of this NL. It will include all *EH missions
and plotlines that have been released to date.

* see below for format.....

-NEW MISSION DISTRIBUTION. A new way of mission distribution shall be tested
starting with this NL. One file with all of the new missions, named for immediate
gameplay (bat-miss.zip), shall be attached along with the old format....(Missions.zip)
with the files named as...(hmrb34m1.tie, etc.). The new format is compressed utilizing
WinZip, (Saving all directory info.) so all you have to do is extract each file to the
appropriate directory in c:\tie\mission. NO MORE RENAMING FILES!!! So, if you see this
in the path column in Winzip.....

b1m1fm.tiec:\tie\mission\b34

....highlite it, "Extract", go to c:\tie\mission and then "Create" b34, "extract". Then, let's
say, next you have.....

b1m2fm.tiec:\tie\mission\b34

....highlite it, "Extract", go to c:\tie\mission\b34 -(it will already be there), "Extract". Do
this for each group of files and for the free missions.

NOTE: You do not have to "create" a directory if it is
already present. If b34 was already in your c:\tie\mission directory, all you need to do is "extract" to it.

This is being done in cooperation with RA Lucas's (MarkFlux) hammer.bat mission
launcher file. Send comments on the new format. WinZip can be found by doing a in file
search for (WINZIP 5.6).

-THE OLD WAY. There has been much confusion regarding copying and playing
mission files. Briefly, these files must be directly copied to your c:\tie\mission
subdirectory. However, BE CAUTIONED...you MUST backup your original files
currently in the c:\tie\mission subdirectory or they will be copied over and lost. This is
due to the fact that all new missions will have one of the same names as the original
missions (apparently, edited missions can only replace the named missions in the original
TIE Fighter Game).*

*hammer.bat does this automatically

Fleet Members MUST manually rename the mission files to one of the original TIE
Fighter Battle 1 mission name, as follows:

b1m1fm.tie
b1m2fm.tie
b1m3bm.tie
b1m4im.tie
b1m5gm.tie
b1m6gm.tie

Then copy them into the c:\tie\mission subdirectory for proper use as a TIE Fighter Battle
or in the Combat Chamber...(REMEMBER... Backup ALL original files prior to
copying new mission files into the c:\tie\mission subdirectory!!!)
...

ALL Members are notified that RA Lucas (MarkFlux@aol.com) has been faithfully
updated his mission launcher (hammer.bat) files in recent newsletters. Members who
don't have the time to manage a complex directory structure are advised to use the
batch files...See "NEW MISSION DISTRIBUTION" above.

-GAME LOCK-UPS! If you run into a lock-up during a briefing, try the mission in the
Combat Chamber. Some missions submitted to the Tactical Office do NOT have edited briefings. Also, you may have a
briefing but not a map. Just skip the briefing room map
option.
