House Drakonan Report November 22nd, 2010 Dark Greetings Everyone, It’s time again for the weekly House report. There was some activity this week, which I was glad to see. Keep up the momentum. I’ve also had several ideas for competitions and activity submitted to me and I’ll be looking into those getting launched soon. The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and family visits are playing havoc with my schedule right now. News It was a slow news week, but the closing of the Hammer’s Fist and Directorate was a topic at the weekly EH meeting (Saturdays at 12:00 PM EST) in case you were unable to attend. Fictionally these organizations will continue to exist for story purposes and in case we ever need to reopen them. Also, with the closure of these two organizations, their academy courses will be moved. The Training Office will be consolidating everything into one Imperial University with two sub schools consisting of IWATS and the Shadow Academy. So look for changes coming soon. Keep in mind that any EH member can take any course now and have it in their ID line. So those of you who are not also TC members can take IWATS courses and display them in your DB ID line. Also the Imperial University will be a new school open to everyone and featuring some new courses. I know there is a new leadership course prepared to launch there, (Because I wrote it.  ) and we have several other new courses planned for release as well as relocating some courses there from the closed academies. Stop in and get some new letters for your ID line. Awards None this week. Competitions The same competitions continue, and as I mentioned earlier there are a few in the process of being sorted for launch. Also, because of the holiday and the fact that many people will be having time on their hands this weekend I’ve decided to extend the deadlines for the running comps until Sunday. I’ll make the necessary changes at the main EH site after I finish this report. So those of you who wanted to participate, but needed extra time, now you have it. I’ve enjoyed the submissions so far and look forward to seeing more. Good luck everyone. What do you Stand For? Start Date: November 7, 2010 End Date: November 21, 2010 Groups involved: House Drakonan Awards: Crescent-Sapphire Star (Cr-1S) for 1st, Crescent-Emerald Star (Cr-1E) for 2nd. Description: This comp is to create a motto for House Drakonan. When creating a motto, try and keep in mind what would be good for the entire House (all three Orders) and what each of us stands for as a Dark Jedi. "Kill all lightsiders" is catchy and has a good intent but doesn't really distinguish the House from any other dark side aligned organization. Submit all entries to ascottcampbell7@aol.com . What is in a Name? Start Date: November 7, 2010 End Date: November 28, 2010 Groups involved: House Drakonan Awards: Crescent-Sapphire Star (Cr-1S) for 1st and Crescent-Emerald Star (Cr-1E) for 2nd. Description: Time for us to come up with the nickname we will be known as in the Fleet. As with the motto, the nickname should be appropriate for the whole House (all three Orders) and say something about us as a group. "The fearful galactic reavers of infinite power" might sound a little cool, but its inaccurate and a bit overdone. Otherwise I'm open to anything. Submit all entries to ascottcampbell7@aol.com. An Image of Darkness Start Date: November 7, 2010 End Date: November 28, 2010 Groups involved: House Drakonan Awards: Crescent-Sapphire Star (Cr-1S) for 1st, Crescent-Emerald Star (Cr-1E) for 2nd. Description: Time to make pretty pictures! We need a banner for the House. I'd like to use it for the website I'm working on for us. Design to your heart's content but I'd definitely like to see something appropriate to Dark Side Jedi as a whole or something that includes an image reflecting each Order. (i.e. a banner that features a TIE fighter might be great for Stingray, but not the entire House.) In addition to the medal I'll make sure to credit you on the website when it goes up so everyone can recognize your work. Submit all entries to ascottcampbell7@aol.com. Debriefing Start Date: November 7, 2010 End Date: November 28, 2010 Groups involved: House Drakonan Awards: Crescent-Sapphire Star (Cr-1S) for 1st, Crescent-Emerald Star (Cr-1E) for 2nd. Description: In our wonderful Shadow Academy we have a course available on Writing Debriefs. If you haven't taken a look at it I urge you to do so. The idea of this competition is to bring back the practice of writing debriefs about the combat our members engage in. The rules are simple. Fly a mission (any DB platform) or fight a duel in one of our FPS games (since MP is problematic for the older games I will accept entries that used 'bots' in an MP arena) and then write a debrief about what happened. I won't repeat the course notes here, but specificity and good description are the keys to a good debrief. Let me know what your goal(s) were. What strategy you went in with, The way you carried it out, etc. (i.e. I was to destroy a Rebel corvette and decided my best method of attack would be to approach from the rear and employ a loadout of advanced concussion missiles. As I closed with my target a flight of X-Wings moved in from 8 o'clock high, etc.) When you submit please include the mission you flew or arena you dueled in, what platform you played on, and the mission/arena name. The winning entries will eventually find a home in the fiction archive. Send all submissions to ascottcampbell7@aol.com. The Uses of Power Start Date: November 7, 2010 End Date: November 28, 2010 Groups involved: House Drakonan Awards: Crescent-Sapphire Star (Cr-1S) for 1st, Crescent-Emerald Star (Cr-1E) for 2nd. Description: This is a fiction based competition open to the entire House. I hope that this can become an ongoing competition if there is enough interest to merit it. The basic idea is that I will select a power from the list in the Dark Side Compendium and you write a story about one of three things: 1) How your character first learned the power. 2)A unique story where you put the power to an interesting or unconventional use during a past mission. 3) A story from the early years of the Old Republic where a Sith or Jedi "discovers" this power and how they did so. The entry should show that you have a familiarity with the power's DSC description and limitations. At first I will be choosing more commonly accessible powers, available to lower ranks. If at some point in the future I choose a higher level power that may not be available to you at your rank, you can write a story where you observed its use by another dark jedi or even an enemy. Be creative and have fun. The object here is to explore the possibilities available with the Force as our ally. I'll give you fair warning, stick to the DSC and its descriptions and do NOT tell me what "Starkiller" can do. The first power I'll put up for competition is Cleanse, available at Acolyte rank and above. I'll be saving the winning entries to add to the EH fiction archive when it is operational and (if possible) add to the House website when it is completed. In the meantime there are medals to be won. I'll accept entries of 1 page at minimum to a 6 page maximum. Submit all entries to ascottcampbell7@aol.com. Dempsey’s Toon Mania Our Sith pilot and TAC of the Fleet, Anahorn Dempsey has launched another fun competition for the entire Fleet and details can be found here: http://eh.stryfe.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1691. Basically, it involves identifying cartoon frames and testing your trivial knowledge of that amazing animated artform. (Though, I’m still aghast the Superfriends weren’t included, nor even heard of by oue esteemed TAC. I’m shuddering in my Superman underoos at that oversight still.) Still it’s a lot of fun, as the Dempsey mania competitions always are, so check it out and join in. Medals are available regardless of which EH group you are in, but if you want Dark Brotherhood medals, be sure to submit with your DB ID Line. Good Luck! Activities As always, there is merriment and mischief available to all members of House Drakonan at our message board: http://eh.stryfe.net/viewforum.php?f=137 I’d certainly like to see the Message Board expand a bit into topics outside of just the run on, so get on there and discuss things a bit, any topic is open (within the Code of Conduct and AoW that is) so let’s socialize a bit. (Yes, this means I’m okay with Spam Xantros.  Just keep it out of the run on and ‘official’ threads.) Our “Into the Cold” run on has ended. I’ll be doing my final post and locking it today. Hades has some interesting plot threads ahead for us and I have a few surprises of my own planned. I’m hoping to chat with the GM some before my holiday absence or shortly after my return to get this started. In the meantime, if you have any preferences or ideas, send me an email and I’ll see if we can’t get them worked in. Remember run ons are much more enjoyable if you can write about things you like, so send me any ideas you have so we can keep the “fun” in this activity. I got to speak with a few members on irc and through IM, and I even got to do a little non EH gaming, (Left For Dead of course.  ) with a House member. Get out there and try and recruit. If any of you are on Steam my handle there is Hitman -EH- . Usually if I’m not online anywhere else, you can get me on my Steam messenger. Hopefully I’ll be able to launch a few things before the holiday and announce them, but if not have a happy Thanksgiving for those of you who celebrate it! My next report will probably be on Monday of next week as well due to my absence. If you need anything during my absence (Thursday through Sunday) contact your BTL or a member of the DC. By then I should be able to announce the winners of our extended competitions. Keep it up, this club only gets better when we all chat and work together!
