TACTICAL OFFICER REPORT #2
Date: 1 October 2026
From: VA Jagged Fell III
DESK OF THE TAC OFFICER
Well, at least for this second report I have managed to keep my planned release schedule of quarterly...way to set the bar low for myself I guess.
QUESTIONNAIRE
It was already posted on the website and Discord (twice by accident) but I have opened a questionnaire seeking feedback on where the TAC Office has been doing well, not so well, and suggestions for improvement. I also ask if any who are not currently helping in the Tactical Office if they would like to join to help out. Many hands make light work. I will keep the Google Form open for new entries until the end of October to give you all a chance to respond, now that Raise the Flag has been completed.
TACTICAL OFFICE NEWS
As announced in the last report, we have recently added support for the XWVM platform for the base campaign and all our internal missions. A fair number of you have already tried out this amazing "new" platform but several mission critical bugs have been identified. The Tactical Office (almost entirely FA Locke Setzer) has fixed all the critical bugs identified thus far and updates have been pushed out for all the affected battles. Please remember that if you run into a bug in a mission/battle to put in a bug report rather than just mentioning it in your battle review. There is a much higher level of visibility to the bug reports over the reviews. In the near future the Tactical Office does plan to start a coordinated effort to fix as many bugs as we can for all our platforms. If you are interested in helping in this effort, please reach out to me.
The Tactical Office is holding a 2026 Free Mission Creation Competition for the next three months. In this competition you are tasked with creating the best Free Mission you can for any of the supported platforms. And for this competition I have waived the usual requirements of having passed the requisite mission creation Imperial University courses, but of course I still HIGHLY recommend that you take the IU courses first before attempting to make your mission. The missions are due by the end of the year and will be judged by me. Once the judging is completed, all missions made by pilots who have passed the needed IU courses will be then sent out for the normal beta testing and release process.
We have seen a decent number of pilots trying out the X-Wing Virtual Machine mission and the Embers of the Empire campaign we recently added, I hope all are enjoying the content. Since the last report we have had three new TFTC Free missions released and two new TFTC Battles released. We also have one BoP battle currently in the beta testing cycle.
TFTC-TC 16: Hammer to Anvil - Part I by Jagged Fell III and Sauron
TFTC-IW 4: Wraith Squadron: Iron Fist by Jagged Fell III
TFTC-F 12: Story Time II - A Golden Spanner By Master
TFTC-F 13: The Capture of Firaxon by Jagged Fell III and RogueWing
TFTC-F 14: Capture the Rebel Cruiser by Jagged Fell III and RogueWing
IN CLOSING
I said this last time, but feel it is worth repeating, I would like to encourage all who have any interest in these classic X-Wing games to consider creating your own content for them. We have a core team of experienced mission designers in the Tactical Office, but we can never make every mission and we would love to help any who are interested in learning how to make a mission do so. There are Imperial University requirements to be able to formally release a battle/free mission, but if you are someone who learns best by doing, jump on in and we will do our best to help guide you towards making your first (or second) battle and once you have gotten the hang of it, the IU tests will be easy.
