Section 2: Chapter 2: Leadership Positions

Leadership positions are not exclusive to officers. Enlisted members also have the opportunity to lead groups of troopers without ever having to take this course. Enlisted leaders are generally expected to lead their troops by example through encouraging participation in ongoing activities as well as participating themselves. Leadership positions at the officer level, however, require more time spent outside of the games dealing with day-to-day matters and “paperwork”. This chapter describes each leadership position in detail, both enlisted and officer. As an officer, it is your job to understand how each position works in the group so that when it comes time for you to either appoint someone to a position under you or climb to a higher position yourself that you fully understand what is required of the said position.

Fire Team Leader
A Fire Team Leader is the first level of leadership in the Hammer’s Fist. It is an enlisted position and has a minimum rank of Lance Corporal and a maximum rank of Gunnery Sergeant. A Fire Team Leader is in command of a Fire Team consisting of five Fire Team Members. This position is primarily for the most impressive member of a Fire Team. A FTL is expected to be highly active both in gaming and through high levels of communication. A FTL’s primary responsibility is to motivate their Team. There is little to no administrative duties associated with this position. Reports are not required, though their superior may ask for weekly or bi-weekly reports of activity.

Detachment Leader
A Detachment Leader is a high-ranking enlisted member in charge of 3 Fire Teams. The minimum rank is Sergeant and the maximum rank is Sergeant Major. Although not the first actual leadership position, this is the first level of command that involves any kind of administrative work and “paperwork”. Detachment Leaders are able to organize official events and are required to submit at least one report of activity per month, though their superior officers may require more. Detachment Leaders generally work very closely with their Company Commanders in order to ensure the smooth running of the unit.

Company Commander
A Company Commander is the first level of command at the officer level. A Company Commander holds a minimum rank of Second Lieutenant and a maximum rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Company Commanders are in charge of three Detachments and thus have the opportunity to be in command of up to 57 troopers at one time. Because this is the first level of command above the enlisted level, Company Commanders are expected to still maintain a close relationship with all of the members of their Company. Company Commanders should work closely with their Detachment Leaders in order to keep detailed records on all of the Company’s members and to ensure that each unit in the Company is running smoothly and efficiently. CCs should constantly be providing members with activities and promoting participation. Company Commanders must issue a weekly report to their members and superiors, and are in charge of making appropriate medal and promotion recommendations via the Hammer’s Fist website admin.

Battalion Commander
The Battalion Commander is a mid-level officer command position with a minimum rank of Captain and a maximum rank of Brigadier General. Battalion Commanders are in charge of two companies and thus could potentially be in command of up to 116 troopers. The primary responsibility of the Battalion Commander is to oversee their Company Commanders and hold them to the highest of standards. Battalion Commanders should have set goals for Company Commanders and should always be working to make sure that they meet those goals. Battalion Commanders can create large-scale competitions for their units and also award higher level medals and promote to higher ranks than Company Commanders. Battalion Commanders should collect their CC’s weekly reports and then submit a weekly report of their own to their superiors.

Brigade Commander (currently not in use)
A Brigade Commander is a high level officer command position with a minimum rank of Lieutenant Colonel and a maximum rank of Major General. Brigade Commanders are the highest level of leadership that a member may reach before becoming a Special Operations Command officer and are in charge of two Battalions; which can amount to up to 234 members at any given time. A Brigade Commander’s workday almost entirely consists of administrative issues. Brigade Commanders must collect and compile reports, submit promotion/medal requests, manage large scale competitions, and handle disputes between members of the Brigade.

Special Operations Command

Special Operations Command consists of several officers tasked with specific duties that together ensure the Hammer’s Fist runs smoothly and efficiently. The Commander of Training is in charge of the Carrida Stormtrooper Military Academy. The CT is responsible for the upkeep of all courses as well as grading exams submitted by members. The CT’s office is also responsible for guiding new Recruits through their training. The Commander of Operations oversees all official Hammer’s Fist-wide events, from unit level competitions to group wide operations. The Vice Prefect is second in command of the Hammer’s Fist and assists the Prefect whenever necessary. The Prefect is the commanding officer of the Hammer’s Fist and as such is responsible for every office and every member of the group. The minimum rank for SOC positions is Colonel and the maximum rank is Lieutenant General. The Prefect has a minimum rank of Major General and a maximum rank of Field Marshal.
