1) The HF XO has a new office up at:
http://www.darthmordred.digitalrice.com/xoffice.htm
I suppose this means I must update mine! :)

2) The CSMA has a new course up: the Scout course =SC=. A Sandtrooper course will be following. Also the Communication course set is just about finished by the hard work of PFC Cuchulain Darkblade.

3) The Platoon League is a very big job to update and keep running. Burn-out and insanity are two real dangers. BG Zsinj is working with CPT Delak on automating aspects of the PL so energy can be expended on its more creative side.

4) A bug in ID line display on the HF roster is fixed. Almost (only an 'extra' comma issue remains). The certifications part of the ID line was affected.

-Graduates continue to flood in. Yay! Remember, there's always more CSMA courses to take. Unless you're Dron. :P

-The Stormtrooper Scout Course =SC= is released as of this report. Dron is extremely happy about this. :P Hopefully, Desert will be released this weekend as well.

-I will be in hospital for the day next Tuesday, Nov. 26, to have surgery. As such, I'll be on semi-leave all the rest of next week... don't be surprised if courses don't get marked, and there's only about a 50% chance of a report. If anyone feels like objecting, now or then, bugger off. :PPP

That's all for this week.

Tactical Officer Resigns

As posted on the main domain:

Greetings,

It has been several months now my performance as Tactical Officer has been degraded due to a new time-consuming RL job; I guess time has also lessened my enthusiasm to assume the position, with nearly 20 months overall of service as Tactical Officer, and three years and half of full time positions within the Tactical Office. During all these prosperous years, I have participated and directed all the changes I was willing to be done within this office, changes which have transformed an office dependent of the TAC's personality into an organized structure where team work has become a key word. I am proud of what has become the Tactical Office, but I guess it is becoming time to see some fresh blood at the head of this office, assuming also the fact that I can hardly assume the associated work load with my current situation.

I had planned to resign in past September when my new job began, with the eh.net server problem I delayed this decision to wait for the database to be fully operational, to not bring additional mess to an already troubled situation. The BSF system and associated FTP services are nearly fully working, and I will leave my position of Tactical Officer as soon as everything is working, and as soon as you have selected the future Tactical Officer. I do not plan to leave the EH, I guess I will continue my career in a less time-demanding position, where my competences and expertise can help the EH...

1) With the CSMA being able to do what it wants, new course outlines are flooding in. Proposals include a sandtrooper, spacetrooper, and storm commando (special missions) for troop types, and outlines for a medic course (written by a guy who knows the stuff). Of course, the medic courses will be accompanied by disclaimers as to their suitability to real world application.

2) An interesting total conversion project for Star Wars: Rebellion is being done by SPL Nemesis Karrde. The conversion of this empire-building game will feature HF characters and equipment.

3) Another total conversion is being done for the new FPS, Unreal Tournament 2003. It is called "Troopers: Rise of the Rebellion" and allows play as either Empirial or Rebel troopers. What is very nice about this conversion is that it is almost tailor-made for the HF, featuring sandtroopers (among other troop types), which is what our own armor is based on. It would take very little tweaking to allow for rank and position-specific player skins in the game! The URL is:
http://www.ut2003troopers.co.uk/

This means that our own conversion, UT:EH, is likely to end and instead I will modify and add on to "Troopers..." unless there is a loud enough chorus for continued development of UT:EH. The real difference between the two is that "Troopers..." is for UT2003 and UT:EH is for UT.

4) Lots more interesting stuff next week!

Yet Another CSMA Policy Change

CT/LTC Nightflyer

16 November, 2002 16:57
10 ABY
Since LT Dron brought this up to me, I should let everyone know that there is technically an order of precedence for listing CSMA courses in ID lines. Basic stormtrooper courses like the SSBTC and SSITC are listed first, then type certifications, then specialist certifications. Aside from that, it's just the order you got them in.

Thank you. :P

Whoo, moderately un-busy week this week.

-Marking of tests continues. For the moment, I'm caught up with my marking, as far as I know. Go me. :P

-Several new courses are being authored. I've received outlines for the Medic, Sandtrooper, Spacetrooper, and Special Missions (Storm Commando) courses, and there are ideas for other courses kicking around the area. Stay tuned.

1) I enjoyed my vacation so much I've had trouble getting back to work. :p But I'm building up my head of steam. The Field Manual is undergoing a few more last-minute changes.

2) Medals have been expanded. Now we have three multiplayer medals:
Medal of Courage - this has been around a bit. You get one for every 30 mp games played.
Dark Heart - awarded for winning an official internal mp game
Warrior's Cross - awarded for winning an official inter-subgroup mp game.

3) I've cut the bonds holding the CSMA back. CT Nightflyer now has far greater leeway in putting up new courses. Recently added courses include the Seatrooper, another Vehicle course, and Comm courses. Medical courses are in the works. All CSMA courses are designed to enrich life in the HF and round out members' ficitonal personas. So, as always, IWATS is the place to go for practical learning.

4) We are kicking off a JKII tourney tomorrow! It is an internal HF event occuring monthly. Its primary purpose is to improve playing ability to compete against other subgroups and clubs.

5) the Commander, Operations post has been vacant for some months. That situation is going to be resolved next week.

There was a locking issue with the BSF system that was preventing zipped pilot files from being loaded. Preliminary testing shows the problem appears to have been fixed. The TAC staff will be conducting further testing over the weekend. This is pretty much the last major sticking point in the site's functionality and once resolved, the site will go live.

Addition to New CSMA Policy

CT/LTC Nightflyer

08 November, 2002 07:02
10 ABY
One addition to the new policy:

For the sake of recordkeeping and to save the CI some work, ALL certifications will be displayed on the Hammer's Fist web page records, rather than just the highest of each level.

Changes to CSMA Policy

CT/LTC Nightflyer

08 November, 2002 06:59
10 ABY
Couple of changes in regards to CSMA policy. Yay.

First off, there was some rule a long time ago that you could only take a certain number of type certifications and could only take a Level 4 course for one specialisation. Those rules are now annulled - you may take as many type certifications as you like, as many specialist certifications as you like, and you can go up to Level 4 in as many as you like, provided you pass the tests. :P

The second policy change governs how CSMA courses are to be displayed in the ID line. From now on, when displaying basic stormtrooper courses (S, SS, IOTC, and MC), and specialist courses (Vehicle Specialist, Sniper, Communications, Demolitions, etc.), *only the highest level* is to be displayed. Hence, it would be written as =SS= rather than =S, SS= and =SN4= rather than =SN1, SN2, SN3, SN4=, in order to save space and not have to read lines and lines of certifications.

Thank you.

[salute]

Busy in the Commandership of Training (quiet, I know it's a stupid title) this week.

-First, almost all of the courses that are currently up on the page have been converted to HTML instead of having the troopers download them in .doc format. This is a Good Thing (tm), as this way, there will be no compatibility issues (either that, or the troopers can't read the CSMA page in the first place :P).

-Second, four new courses have been released this week: Seatrooper, Communications 1 and 2, and Vehicle Specialist 2. I look forward to the new influx of course submissions. :) However, there is a slight catch - the certifications are not entirely updated on the website yet. So, you can complete the course, and we'll send you a grad letter, but the certifications won't be up on the web page until CI Zsinj and I iron the issues out.

-If anyone is missing certifications from their records (except for those people about to take CM1, CM2, VS2, or SEA), please e-mail me with the missing certifications and the course tests and I'll be glad to add them to your records. :)

That's all for this week.
