Battle Reviews

This battle features pretty much a single engagement split into all of its missions. It somehow resembles in style an original X-Wing campaign where in a few missions you were progressing an attack on ISD. Two negative things can be said about this battle. Three of its missions are very similar, namely those you have to wreck one of the frigates chasing your group. Secondly, the Cruiser and ISD have a failsafe in forms of sith ton of A-Wings and T/As spawning as soon as you land a single hit on them. In the last missions those are very easily manageable (given they arrive in trios) but in one mission I'm pretty sure I saw a full squadron of twelve T/As rushing right after you... Nope... Nop.. No.. *Hypers home* I've certainly saw worse than this though. It's quite long, repeatable but bearable to fly.

Yeah, I think this is the worst battle of any I've ever played... Missions are nothing special, and beating them takes sooo many retries. Way too many craft for the platform. For some of the missions I had to draw up a schedule of when to destroy things so that the mission critical craft appear... not fun :P I've finally recovered enough from my hate of the battle to actually submit my review :P *NOTE* This was before the battle was updated, so don't think I'm nuts for the above review... Trust me, it was hell, I still have nightmares...

I really don't see what is so horrible about this battle that it deserves such a low rating. I had no problems completing the mission. There are obvious threats in all of the missions and they can be eliminated before they pose a threat to mission craft. Although it is not the most comprehensive and interesting battle, and the plot line and structure are not the best, they are not terrible. This battle gets a three. I spent a fun hour blowing up rebels. What more can I ask for? :P

Well, a disapointing battle. IW fleet meets somewhere in space rebels and one space battle is splited to 6 missions with v.poor design...

Installation:
----------------------
note: the original mission files will be overwritten, back up any files with the same names.

X-Wing CD Installation:
1. Download and install XCD from the SCO Site (http://sco.minos.net), files archive, the edittors section. (6k.) This will let you run custom missions. There is a full guide available at the SCO site as well.
2. Put the *.BRF and *.XWI files in your new "C:\Mission" folder and use XCD to start X-Wing CD. Create a new pilot based on your pin and the battle's type and name. For example: 2883tc01.plt if I would be flying the first XW-TC battle.
3. Fly the first 6 "Historical Combat" missions for the "Y-Wing".

X-Wing 95/Disk Installation:
1. Run full install of the game so the mission files will be on your hard drive. The game will take it's mission information by preference from the harddisc, but might still give a warning. In that case - Ignore.
2. Locate your X-W Directory and open the folder labeled "Mission", or "Classic" in X-W95. Copy the *.xwi, *.brf files of this custom battle into it.
3. Create a new pilot based on your pin and the battle's type and name. For example: 2883tc01.plt if I would be flying the first XW-TC battle.
3. Fly the first 6 "Historical Combat" missions for the "Y-Wing".

Infiltrator Wing Battle 6

Battle Name: Savior
Battle Medal: Savior's Medal
Plotline and Missions By: FL/BG Draught/Wasp-II/FRG Ka'Tal/IW/EH, PC (jjkeon@interlog.com)
Briefings By: CMDR/BG Dogger/Wasp-I/FRG Ka'Tal/IW/EH
		 (spenst@cableregina.com)
Game Platform: Both TIE Fighter and X-wing (B-wing or X-wing CD required).

Mission 1:

The Cruiser Renegade and Frigate Ka'Tal will work together in this mission. They will hyper in together and destroy a New Republic Sector command ship (a frigate) and it's escorts (corvettes and fighters). The objective is to destroy all capital ships and as many fighters as possible in as little time as possible. You will fly the B-wing Savior 1 with 3 wingmen.

Mission 2:

A trap has been sprung against our command ships! Two medium capital ships, a Calamari Cruiser and a captured Imperial-Class Star Destroyer have entered the area in a diamond around our ships. You are to protect the capital ships while fending off all enemy fighters. Watch out for Imperial fighters from the captured Star Destroyer. Our ships will enter hyperspace as soon as possible. You will fly the A-wing Savior 1, again with 3 wingmen.

Mission 3:

TIE Fighter:
Our command ships were unable to leave the area. After inspection, we learned that the frigate placed a light gravity well generator in it's hangar bay. Although it does not carry fighters it and the Inderdictor will be able to contain our capital ships. We will need to destroy the Interdictor to save our cruiser and frigate. We have had to bug out many of our fighters due to damage and we are running out of back up. Your job is to destroy the Republic Interdicotr Hopeful and ensure the safety of our command ships. You will fly the B-wing Savior 1 with 3 wingmen.

X-wing:
Our command ships were unable to leave the area. After inspection, we learned that the frigates have placed light gravity well generators in their hangar bays. Although they do not carry fighters they will be able to contain our capital ships when they work in tandem with each other. We will need to destroy at least one of the frigates to save our cruiser and frigate. We have had to bug out many of our fighters due to damage and we are running out of back up. Your job is to destroy the Republic capital ship Hopeful and ensure the safety of our command ships. You will fly the B-wing Savior 1 with 3 wingmen.

Mission 4:

The Hopeful has been destroyed and the faster of our command ships, the frigate Ka'Tal, escaped (taking Wasp squadron with it) but our cruiser was not fast enough. The Star Destroyer launched two shuttles and they laid pulse mass mines (probes) where the Frigate had been before the Renegade could leave. The shuttles are now on there way back to the Star Destroyer and you are to disabled one of them for prisoners with information about the fleet that could save the IW. Also be sure to destroy the pulse mass mines (probes). Be sure not to let the CRS Renegade be to severly damaged. You will fly the captured Assault Gunboat Savior 1 with 3 wingmen.

Mission 5:

The prisoner we captured has revealed much information to us. Their fleet located us and identified us as unfriendly by intercepting and decrypting a communication between the CRS Renegade and the SSSD Sovereign. He says that only this New Republic fleet knows of us and that this is only part of the New Republic fleet in this area. He informed us that the rest of the fleet is on route and should arrive very soon. Unfortunately, he did not know when (although he did seem to know a lot for a low ranking lieutenant!?). Destroy the frigate Demeanor to allow the safe escape of the CRS Renegade. There should not be many fighters left but always watch out, the CRS Renegade has lost her shields! You will fly the B-wing Savior 1 with 2 wingmen.

Mission 6:

This mystery fleet could arrive at any moment and the Star Destroyer and Cruiser are holding stead, most likely waiting for it. If we could destroy these capital ships quickly know one would know that IW had ever been here. You have to destroy the Star Destroyer AND the Cruiser (we are sending everything we can spare to help), the quicker the better. You wil fly the B-wing Savior 1 with 2 wingmen.

Epilogue:

TIE Fighter:
Some fleet! A Carrack Cruiser, two Corvettes and an Escort Transport. No problem finishing them off.

X-wing:
Some fleet! Three Corvettes and a Transport. No problem destroying them.

Excellent work saving the Infiltrator Wing from disaster. Long live the Empire!
