CyberGuy
and Jam3z have completed the new Shadow Academy site, and I must
say, it looks quite fancy. While I'm not sure if the HM is ready
to release it to the public just yet, I can tell you it looks
great.
EH
Domain redesign is now discussing some of the finer points of
design and implementation between each other and GA Ronin. We
hope to finalize some decisions this coming week and progress
to the next stage.
IOA
Thorin has released a template for squadron sites until SquadFirst
is released. You can download it at www.minos.net/~thorin/tst.zip
- it requires no knowledge of HTML or PHP whatsoever (though it
does require a PHP server) unless you want to modify it yourself.
Speaking
of SquadFirst, Alex Foley has finally completed it! I will inspect
the code this weekend, and hopefully it will be fully documented
and released this weekend for all to use!
I'd
like to make clear to some people that if you want me to update
your moderator status on the EH Message Boards, don't just tell
me your username, also tell me the username I need to de-moderate.
It makes it so much easier for me. So be nice.
This
week I dealt with the investigation of a hack on the Imperial
University site. HTTP logs revealed that a non-EH hacker exploited
a security flaw in the FusionPHP news system the site was using.
As a result, I'd like to request that anyone who plans on using
pre-made software, besites PHPNuke or PostNuke, please let me
know so I can take a look at it and make sure there are no problems.
This is just a request, but if it gets to be an issue, it will
enter into an official rule in the Guidelines.
Also,
there has been a recent virus epidemic in the EH. First off, I'd
like to clarify that warnings about jdbgmgr.exe being a virus
IS A HOAX (thanks to Darksaber for pointing this out).
Do not delete it. Further information is available at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html
Also,
KLEZ viruses are abound. Do not download anything you are unsure
of! ESPECIALLY .PIF FILES! KLEZ viruses often infect these
types of files. If you receive an email you suspect to be infected,
email the message headers to me at ari@tiecorps.org.
Also, if you recognize any of the following IP addresses, contact
the IO immediately:
roc-66-66-164-24.rochester.rr.com [66.66.164.24]
h-64-105-22-82.miatflad.covad.net [64.105.22.82]
That's
all for this week. On a side note, the previous poll (which lasted
a little longer than usual) about whether a credits system should
be implemented EH-wide had 41% (42 votes) saying Yes, 21% (22
votes) saying No because there would be no use, and 17% (18 votes)
saying just plain No.
