Taking from the starwars.com Homing Beacon:
Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios today announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. has created an exclusive teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones that will only appear at the head of the new animated Disney / Pixar film Monsters, Inc. The film premieres on November 2nd in theaters across the United States and Canada.

George Lucas commented, "I have great respect for Pixar and deep admiration for John Lasseter and his team. I'm thrilled to be able to show audiences their first glimpse of Episode II with Monsters, Inc. It gives me an immense sense of pride to see our companies working together."

***Halloween RO Comp***

This is very short notice, and I must apologize for that. The object of this comp is to create an EH Halloween graphic. It doesn't matter the size, but it must involve the EH and something with Halloween.

Awards:
1st - IS-GR
2nd - IS-SR
3rd - IS-BR

ENDING: 11.2.01

Please send your submissions to: Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian

***Trick or Treat Prank Contest***

Again, very short notice, but this will be a lot of fun. As suggested by my CA, Maverick, what you do is take your squadron banner, or a rival squadron banner and put a prank on it. Then submit it to Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian. I will work on getting this approved, but please start to get to work on them. Good luck!

Awards:
1st - IS-GR
2nd - IS-SR
3rd - IS-BR

ENDING: 11.4.01

Please send your submissions to: Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian

***RO Comp***

Another graphics comp from the RECON Office. I know...graphics, some people can't make them, but don't worry next month there will be one for everyone, not just graphics people. :)

In this comp, you'll need to design either a banner or graphic for the Imperial Survey Corps (ISC). The banner should be the size of every other banner, about 400 x 40 pixels. The graphic should be about the size of a splash banner, about 800 x 500 - max. The Imperial Survey Corps searches the Internet and RL for ways to help the EH out by letting people know about this. So, something like Corevettes or scout ships for graphics - just a suggestion. There will be two awards. One for the banner and the other for the graphic. You may do either one or both! :)

Awards:
1st - IS-GR
2nd - IS-SR
3rd - IS-BR

STARTING: 10.12.01
ENDING: 11.12.01

Please send your submissions to: Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian

1) The Hammer's Fist now has a new official logo. Gone is the Imperial symbol. This enables us to have HF goodies. So, I will an HF merchandise store like the EH one. Troopers can show their affiliation with mugs and T-shirts.

2) I have been working solely on UT:EH this week, deciphering Unreal Script to create the framework for the UT:EH gametypes. I have also found a graphics utility that will greatly aide me in making new textures for UT. Basically, it'll reduce the graphics hardware workload in the game.

3) Star Wars: Battlegrounds has gone gold and is set to arrive on store shelves on the week of November 12. This is pretty exciting for the Hammer's Fist. With the ability to create new missions with the game editor, we should have new HF missions a few months after the game is out. We'll finally be able to bring out some old medals that haven't been awarded in years (mission creation and multiplayer competition medals).

4) For over three months now, HF membership has risen. There have been no dips or lulls but a steady continuous rise. Looking back over my domain reports, we started our climb from 51, where we had been hovering for months. I don't know what gave us critical mass, but I'm glad the resulting chain reaction hasn't stopped. Come late November, I expect the increase to accelerate.

5) A new competition is set to begin Sunday. It is a phased competition, each phase lasting 2 weeks. 3-4 phases are planned.

As noticed by Major Linkan and tested by myself, it looks like using the ingame unlimited ammo feature of XWA do not reduce your total of points, unlike the invulnerability feature. As nothing can prevent you to use this feature, and furthermore as nothing can be done to track the use of this feature, using the unlimited ammo feature within XWA to achieve high-scores is tolerated. I guess some had already noticed that trick and used it for high-score, now it will be fairer as it is made public.

There is going to be some delays in the operations of the Training Office over the next few days. This is because I've just recently purchased two new hard drives (40GB IBM, yum) and I'm transferring all the data off the old drives to the new ones. In addition, I'll have to reinstall all my applications, download others, etc. As such, competition approval and test marking may be delayed. Hopefully, my system will be up and running fully by Monday.

The location is in a great summer house among the woods. Swimming pool included! :)

I am going to organize it again, but time a bit later. Let's say around 10th of the July 2002. If you would like to join us, just e-mail. If you need more information, do it too. Last summer we had 10 participating EH Pilots and I want to see more next year!

1) 'HF Tactics', one of our home-grown game platforms, is no longer going to be a Flash-based game. It is instead moving to C++ and is changing focus from being a turn-based strategy game to something resembling chess. With SW:Battle Grounds coming out soon, it is probably a good move as it differentiates the two games.

2) A new manual called the Development Manual will be used as a guide for Dark Legionnaire submissions, making an idea for development a reality, and many other nifty things to be announced at a later date.

3) The Hammer's Fist will enter the EH MUD community. It is another effort to expand the HF experience and mix with other subgroups. Since it has been so long since Lucas Arts' last game suitable for us, we have been drifting to fiction and art to tide us over. The MUD is a natural extension of this. Madon is helping with this.

4) UT:EH coding is starting up again. I have given up on the pipedream of getting professional level models done, at least on a large scale. Seeker's the man for now. So, I am gathering steam on the coding aspect and am laying down the bedrock for all the gametypes. In doing so, I am also integrating Ob1-Kenobi's DPMS player model code to support 'Kill the Gungan' and to enforce the use of Star Wars models for players and bots. We can't have 'TMale1' (the standard UT male model) running around with stormtroopers can we?

Another thing I've had a revelation about is in the textures department. I had originally conceived of completely new textures for everything to bring this project closer to an old-fashioned Total Conversion. Then it occured to me that concrete was concrete and metal rivets are the same in any galaxy. It is the architecture which truly defines the feel of an environment. Textures only enhance that.

I am also now actively looking outside for material I can use since it is obvious help is not going to come to me. I must go to the help, so to speak. Later this month I will approach some modellers and others who have already done Star Wars work and see if I can include their work in UT:EHI am also now actively looking outside for material I can use since it is obvious help is not going to come to me. EH vs. NRN Results

11 October, 2001 18:48
9 ABY
In my first act as COO I've submitted the results for the EH vs. NRN war held last month. All in all I feel it was a fairly good contest, though we could have used a larger number of pilots flying. Here's a breakdown of the results:

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter
EH: 2
NRN: 0
War Site

X-Wing Alliance
EH: 34
NRN: 29
War Site

As you can see, we got the victory by a fair margin in the area of matches won. However, the NRN put forward 9 more pilots than we did, and won in the areas of player win/loss ratio and kill/death ratio. This basically means that our wins were closer than our losses, and we lost many more 2v2s than we won.

Thanks to all the pilots who flew, your awards are in the mail!

COO Resignation Letter

AD Wet Willy

06 October, 2001 16:04
9 ABY

Greetings Grand Admiral Ronin, Sector Admiral Kawolski, Fleet Admiral Priyum, Combat Operations Assistants, other members of the Combat Operations Staff, and the EH populace

I come to you all bearing bad news. It severely pains me to have to do this, but effective immediately, I must step down as the Combat Operations Officer. I'm sure you all have noticed the slide in my ability to keep up my work lately. This is mainly due to the fact that I am now trying to keep up with school, I now have a new job which I need in order to save up for college and maintain my car insurance, and just a general lack of time to do all the work that the COO position demands.

I sincerely hope that I will be remembered as a good Combat Operations Officer, as I have put numerous hours of work into the spot. I hope that the command structure and the way it is run will continue to go smoothly, and hopefully, the next COO can incorporate more inter-club wars into our playing field. I have put alot of thought into this over the past three days, considering who would be my successor. I've considered both of my assistants, as they have both served me excellently over my six months as COO. Bruc was a strong and reliable assistant for months, both for Zsinj and me, before leaving for some time, and has recently returned to the position and has served me well since. Kyle was appointed to the spot much more recently, but overall has served me approximately the same amount of time as Bruc has. Kyle is very reliable and trustworthy.

It has been a hard decision to choose from two men who are excellent officers, and good friends. When it came down to it, I thoroughly believe that where my office needs to go from here is to help improve the quality of the multiplayer pilots in the EH. I've set up a sound structure for running the competitions and office, and now it only needs someone with the expertise necessary to set up academies and training courses to improve those who could one day lead the EH to the top of competitions such as the Week of War, and even future replacements for the Outer Rim wars.

Therefore, I've made the decision that my successor should be Lieutenant Brucmack. He is undoubtedly the best that the EH has to offer. He has always dominated all facets of multiplayer competition within the EH, and has been toying with the idea of setting up a MP academy for some time. I feel that he's ready to take on the reigns of COO, and lead us into improving our ability, to match our size.

Of course, the final choice is up to you, Grand Admiral Ronin and Sector Admiral Kawolski, but I feel that you both should accept Brucmack as the new COO, as I believe he is fully qualified to take over.

As for me, I have talked with Colonel Sickman of Wing V, and we have agreed that I shall take over as CMDR of Pe squadron. I have missed the joys of direct command, and look forward to the chance to help a small squadron become great. However, while I have fulfilled many goals, but have left many unfulfilled, therefore, I shall be staying on as an assistant to the COO.

Now, I address you for the last time as Admiral Wet Willy, I appreciate the faith and cooperation all of you have had with me, and I do hope that one day, I may be able to return to the Command Staff.

May the force be with you all,
