1) There has been major shake-up in the Hammer's Fist leadership. Working from the bottom up, we have two new platoon commanders. HC Spazninmov now commands Vengeance, and HC Vradin Jonusk has Vehement. The company commander post has also changed hands. The CC post is currently our highest line officer posting. An old hand, HC Ironfist, is the new Vindictive company commander. Lastly, the GS post of Commander, Training has passed to BG Wolver. All of these officers have held these posts before and so bring back experience. Welcome! Former platoon commander Astix (Vengeance) is now quartermaster/paymaster.

2) The HF has grown enough to open a third platoon. The new platoon is named Vehement, in keeping with the naming scheme of the company. I hope we may reopen our second company sometime in late winter or the spring.

3) The sniper specialty certification course set is complete. All four courses are approved and the vehicle courses will be next.

4) The elite unit we have been poised to open, but has been delayed. I am deciding whether or not to merge it with the SEN-HF initiative, where the best squad of any month works with the best society in the Senate. The elite unit is also the best members. They are likely to be separate.

5) Two more medal images have been completed. I've finished the Legion of Service and the Hammer's Cross. Both are viewable on any roster profile of a trooper who has earned them. An example profile that has all four images (CoO, MoD, LoS, HC) is at:

As some of you may or may not know, the latest Imperial Storm Exercise has ended (about a month ago).

As a Task Force Admiral of this years exercise, I would like to extend my thanks to Pri for making it possible, and although it ended a bit prematurely we here at Task Force DOOM had a lot of fun. I know I speak for the entire Battlegroups when I say that we're looking forward to the next IS to start, and with the recent assignment of VA Pel as our new War Officer I'm sure it won't be long.

As posted in the latest Flag Office report :

The final Imperial Storm II results are out:

TF Silver Saber - 1345 Victory Points
TF Flaming Arrow - 1020 Victory Points

Playing custom EH battles

When you fly a free mission or battle, always make sure you have the up-to-date version, by checking the Battle Center. i don't make announcements of battle updates, which doesn't mean some are not updated... actually there are some quite every day or so, so make sure to fly the latest version. They are generally better (bug corrected or other things), so you will enjoy them better as well... I know some of you download a bunch of battles and fly them weeks after, just have a look on the last update date...!
Another thing, fly a mission at least twice before posting a bug report... if you didn't complete it at the first time, it doesn't mean it is a bug, even hot shot pilots can fail sometimes >:-)
Happy flying !

1) The Hammer's Fist has slowed its growth in numbers (2 new members this week), but not in innovation. The Specialty Certifications that are being added to the CSMA mentioned last week have arrived. The first two Sniper SpecCerts are available, and a number of troopers have already completed them. Even as I am approving current ones in the queue, new SpecCerts are being drawn up.

2) The Jedi Knight Training League I talked about a few reports ago has not materialized. It is not something we are dropping by any means. Something called Real Life has come up for some people and sidetracked it.

3) Between the new SpecCerts, a minor change in our rank structure to close a promotion loophole, reorganization of medals, formation of an elite unit, and other sundry items, the 6-month-old HF Field Manual is undergoing major revision. The new manual will be the 8th Edition and the second in my time.

4) I like my fingers to be in a dozen pies and as one project gets near completion, I start two more. As the medal images continue to be made and the uniforms grind on, I've started work on a whole new design and format for our subgroup newsletter. Everyone has heard me harp on this in the HF, but for those in the EH-at-large, the Hammer's Fist will be the first subgroup to use Flash for its newsletter. I have been learning Flash over the past 2 weeks, and the Dark Legionnaire will be a slick professional magazine. The first Flash edition will debut the issue after next.

5) Two major vacancies will be opening up shortly. My Commander, Training Lander and Vengeance platoon commander Astix are retiring from their posts within the week. Both are fine officers, with Lander being recently awarded the Master Stormtrooper Certification, our highest stormtrooper rating. Both will be missed as they added so much to their posts.

6) Finally, to my knowledge, the Hammer's Fist has escaped any casualties in the horrible acts of 11th of September 2001. We have some East Coasters among us, but are physically well. We raise our rifles and give salute to those among us as a club who have fallen.

Everyone,

September 11th, 2001 will be remembered as a keystone date in the terrorism history of the United States and the world. The sheer scale of this terrorist act against the World Trade Centers, the people of New York, the Pentagon, and the "Western World" is unprecendented. Understandably, anyone who has seen the footage of the crashes is shaken, shocked, and angered.

If anyone wishes to take two week's leave from active membership in the Hammer's Fist, they may and should do so. You will remain on the active roster, no questions asked. This act of war against the United States takes time to grasp. If anyone has family in New York or friends there, my thoughts are with you.

Sharing Passwords

FA Slade Holm

12 September, 2001 23:52
9 ABY
It is time to address, a simple matter and a major problem within the TIE Corps. The TIE Corps database is a magnificent feat (many other coders may scoff, but that is due to a typical programer disease called "I'm_the_bestest" virus. Other symptoms include saying 1337 too much and not being able to code your way out of a paper sack.) but back to the point at hand, it is a great blessing for the TIE Corps and enables a smooth and easy way to award medals, battles, transfers, promotions ect ect. Thusly, people who are entrusted with command postions, are also entrusted with special rights on the database.

Please do not break this trust, and hand out your password to people. From this point on, if anyone is caught handing out your password to someone, it's an automatic two week suspension from duty. If any damage is done, then we'll take care of that issue on a case to case basis; but as a general rule, don't give your password out. If you need something done, contact your superior and have him do it for you. That's what they are there for. Thank You.

Act of War in America

PRF Ares

12 September, 2001 13:19

Today at and after 8:45am EST, three acts of war were perpetrated against the United States of America. A Boeing 767 commercial airplane crashed into each World Trade Center tower in New York. A third commercial jet crashed into the U.S. Army wing of the Pentagon. A fourth commercial aircraft crashed into the forested hills of Pennsylvania before reaching its fatal destination.

These acts of terrorism are by far the worst in American history, even before the death toll has been counted. It has struck not only at America, but at civilization as a whole. It is being condemned throughout the world and even terrorist-supporting countries are standing back from this.

I ask that everyone reading this take five minutes to playr and think of those caught in the catastrophy.

Bug correction and mission creators

FA Striker

12 September, 2001 02:28
9 ABY
If you happen to encounter a Battle or Free Mission that has bugs, do not attempt to correct it on your own (see the Cheating Policy). Only members of the Tactical Office staff are authorized to fix bugs in official missions.
However, authors of an official Battle or Free Mission may submit to the Tactical Officer an updated version of their work at any time, IF it fits the following conditions:
  • the latest corrections brought by the Tactical Staff must be taken into account (i.e. correct your work from the current official version)
  • the maximum reachable score cannot be lower than in the original mission, to prevent unreachable High Scores to occur. Maximum score can be higher though (i.e. don't remove or make invulnerable crafts which could be destroyed in the previous version, add additional bonus goals if necessary)
So, if you have an official mission or battle which needs correction, feel free to submit a corrected version; the Tactical Office keeps bringing corrections to online battles, but your work will be corrected and uploaded faster this way (And then you should only be able to blame yourself if it's still wrong...;))

Membership: 91 active, 125 total

1) Our membership made a leap this week, but all of it has been in the Homeguard. Still, this is not necessarily a bad thing, as school and university start anew, personal time gets restricted.

2) The HF site may be incorporating the combat uniforms into member roster profiles in the near future. This is an automated system that generates a member's uniform based on rank, position, and unit affiliation. The combat uniforms and medal images are part of our continuing effort at beautifying and HF roster and putting a face on our subgroup. The dress uniforms will be the traditional do-it-yourself-and-send-in variety.

3) The Carrida Stormtrooper Military Academy is undergoing some changes. The Standard Stormtrooper Intermediate Training Course is being rewritten to better prepare members for middle and higher officer positions. Also, the long-awaited (very long awaited?) Specialty Certifications are being given form. The first of these are the Sniper Certifications, a set of four courses designed to instruct on the use of terror tactics and the art of long-range assassination. Further courses in development will cover medic, demolitions, recon, and communications. Proposals for Jedi Knight and small vehicle use certifications have also been approved. Members can start to truly personalize their trooper personas with areas of expertise.

4) Our Operation: Crime Watch ends Sunday. There will be a lot of promotions and awards at the next monthly awards ceremony, I'm sure.

New battles' abbreviations...

FA Striker

04 September, 2001 03:59
9 ABY
I guess some will yell at me for changing the things they were used to, but battles, now sorted by platforms rather than subgroups, have new abbreviations, subgroups and platforms are swapped. For example Xwing Alliance TIE Corps Battles change from TC-XWA to XWA-TC. ID, BHG and CAB battles gain a "TIE-" addition to their abbreviation.
These measures are aimed to develop subgroup battles; the Tactical Office is not only the Tactical Office for the TIE Coprs, but for the entire Emperor's Hammer even if some subgroups have some active Subgroup's TAC-like office (well, only IW and maybe DB..).
These measures may seem useless and only bringing more confusion, but it makes more sense to classify battles per platform than subgroup, as a pilot would not choose the battles or missions he will play because it's a TC or a DB battle, but first because it is a TIE or an XWA battle. Remember that all pilots can play any battle, TC, IW, DB etc even if they are not members of these subgroups.

A thread on the Mission Creation Message Board has been posted for your comments.

With the recent resignation of VA Mell, the position of Training Officer Assistant is now open. I've decided to merge the job requirements of TOA with those of TOA2. I've also slightly lowered the requirements in the hope of getting some decent applications. Full details are here. And to hopefully save myself the grief of being harassed with silly questions, here's a short FAQ:

Q. Why not open CA:TO?
A. Because every time I do, I get a billion applications from the trash of the EH only interested in a quick rank promotion. I want people who will work because they want to.

Q. Why is it an assistant position? And can I keep my TC position?
A. Yes, you can keep your TC position. In fact, this is one of the reasons for it being an assistant position, so the TOA is someone active in the TC, who is closer to the members and what they think and want.

Q. I've heard about some apprenticeship system, where a TOA can eventually be offered CA:TO. Is this true?
A. Yes. The idea is that the person earns the rank and position that comes with being a CA through honest work, rather than knowing the right person.

Q. Can I camp online and harass you with more stupid questions on IRC/AIM/ICQ/email?
A. No. And if you do so, consider your application deleted.
