CSMA Test Policy

CT/LTC Nightflyer

30 January, 2003 01:34
11 ABY

From now on, the following must be done on all test submissions:

-The name of the test MUST be included in the subject line (abbreviation is okay; we won't make you type Apprentice Demolitions Technician Certification Course when DT1 will do fine)
-Your full ID line MUST be included on BOTH the test and the e-mail
-There should only be ONE test submitted per e-mail

Failure to meet these guidelines will result in your test submission being deleted.

TC Homepage Standards - Update

It seems some people need clarification on this: Squadron, Wing/Ship and Battlegroup websites are mandatory. If you are a CMDR+, then it's your responsibility to make sure these pages are in place and meet the requirements. This doesn't mean you have to make the pages yourself - there are plenty of people in the EH that can do this for you. Whether you make the pages or not, they remain your responsibility.

These requirements have not be brought in to make your life more difficult. They are there so that TIE Corps sites meet a high level of standard. A Cadet is more likely to consider joining your Squadron if the page has all the correct information and is regularly updated.

FA Priyum and I have devised new standards for all TIE Corps homepages in an attempt to raise the quality of TC sites. All sites are expected to comply with the standards within 2 weeks (by February 9). Officers whose sites do not comply within the allotted time face removal from their current position.

  1. Another troop type course for the CSMA is around the corner with the Zero-G Trooper course. This rounds out the most popular troop types in the Star Wars universe including:
    Cold Assault (Snowtrooper) Certification =ST=
    Aquatic Assault (Seatrooper) Certification =SEA=
    Desert Assault (Sandtrooper) Certification =SD=
    Stormtrooper Scout (Scouttrooper) Certification =SC=
    Naval Stormtrooper (Spacetrooper) Certification =SZ=
Special Missions (Storm Commando) Certification (=SM= and =SMC=)

  2. Three other new courses have been released for the CSMA! The final two vehicle specialist courses, and a Special Missions course. The Special Missions is a stepping-stone course toward being picked as a Storm Commando.

  3. The Platoon League scoring system is a bit wonky. It is far too easy for one or two people to dominate doing only one activity. This has been partially fixed by limiting the number of Jedi Knight matches scorable between any two opponents. The Company Commander is further looking into the PL scoring system.

  4. The Company Commander is also trying to get more interaction between the recruits in Orion Platoon (our equivalent to the TC's Daedalus Platform) and the rest of the Hammer's Fist. There is too much apathy among recruits at present not to mention some normal squads.

  5. This is my last report for about two weeks. My XO, Mordred, will be writing domain reports in my absence. I am taking the time off to build a new computer, so I will not be online at all. I will also use the time to reflect on my role in the Hammer's Fist and hopefully come back with a new perspective.

Internet Issues

25 January, 2003 04:53

There is currently a worm doing the rounds at the moment, which is impacting the performance of the internet around the world. The worm is designed to target known flaws in SQL Server, a database application produced by Microsoft. However, the worm scans so aggressively that it can actually affect the performance of your own internet experience. Those of you on broadband will probably be very likely targets and should look at blocking port 1434 on the UDP protocol if you have firewall functionality that supports specific settings. Otherwise, a general firewall such as McAfee Firewall or ZoneAlarm should do the trick. Those who do actually run SQL Server or MSDE (a desktop version of the server) should check they are patched as this is an exploit that has been known since July 2002.

You also need at least Internet Explorer 6.0 or Netscape Navigator 7.0 to view the XML Scripts of the site. Please do not include this problem in a bug report!

  1. Our Commander, Internet has taken on an assistant. Congratulations to 2LT Coolguy!

  2. An Operation has been underway since the first of the month and will continue through the first of next month. It's dubbed Operation: Urban Assault and is being run through the Hammer's Fist messageboard.

  3. The HF website was down for a short time, but MG Zsinj has brought it back online at a new location. The URL remains the same. Of course, our CI continues to improve upon it. Thanks Zsinj and congratulations on the promotion to Major General.

  4. Most interesting news for last: I have been monitoring a first person shooter Star Wars conversion and it is looking very good. Find it at http://www.ut2003troopers.co.uk/. It (Troopers - Rise of the Rebellion )uses the new Unreal Tournament 2003 engine so it has the potential to blow the doors off of Jedi Knight 2. Of course, it also takes a much beefier computer to run the game. In light of this conversion effort, I have permanently shut down my Unreal Tournament: Emperor's Hammer conversion project. Instead, I plan on further modifying UT2003 using TRotR as a base.

Relentless Commodore

11 ABY
The position of Relentless Commodore in the TIE Corps Battlegroups is still open to applications with the following requirements:

  • Absolute familiarity with Fleet Manuals and the Fleet Standing Orders
  • No serious AoW convictions, and none within the past 12 months
  • Command experience at a Wing Commander level or above, for no less than 4 consecutive months. Squadron Commanders will only be considered with 3 excellent references from superior Officers
  • Familiarity with Single and Multiplayer aspects of X-Wing: Alliance
  • Email response time of 24-36 hours.
  • Everything else detailed in the Training Manual

Applicants must possess the drive and motivation to work towards stabilizing the ship, plan future activities and work with fellow Flag Officers in the Battlegroup. The position of Commodore is not to be underestimated. If you have any doubts as to your suitability for the position, then don't waste our time by applying. Applications should be sent to Vice Admiral Krax and Fleet Admiral Priyum with the subject RelCOM. You may include up to 3 references, two of which must be from current or former superiors. Ensure that you have their permission before listing them.

Reporting of Violations

FA Brad

16 January, 2003 18:44
11 ABY

Remember to use the chain of command first when reporting complaints. Almost 2/3 of the time complaints are better handled by your superior officers. They can get them resolved faster since I have a large number of complaints and each of mine needs thorough investigations as I send people to the High Court of Inquisitors if I find them suspect. Also, do not send an entire log file of the channel. Including some of the log before incidents happened helps, but I do not need to see logs of several months before (or after) a violation.

Skipping missions!

Recently, I've noticed that many pilots are skipping missions and submit battles to their CMDR. Also, CMDR process BSFs even when plt file shows missions has been skipped. Hear now, loud and clear: This is not allowed.
Skipping missions is not considered cheating however, battles will be removed from your profile.
All battles are playable. If you have problem with patches, contact SCO Ender mBind.

I've received so many XWA applications that I don't have spots anymore. Do not send applications for XWA testers. But you can still join TIE or XvT/BoP team. But remember about few basic rules:
  1. Always include your PIN
  2. When applying for TIE, cc TCC:TIE, XvT, TCC:XvT. Also ALWAYS cc my Command Attache.
  3. You must have current mission design course passed (for TIE it's TM, for XvT it's XTM/1 and for XWA it's XAM). Do not apply if you don't have this course passed.
  4. I don't tolerate slacking in my office. It's not squadron. You fail to test, you are out.

TIE Corps Banner Design Competition

11 ABY
As many of you may have noticed, the TIE Corps' current front page banner, found here, shows the wrong page address. To correct this I've decided to hold a small competition to design a new banner, with the correct URL. This competition is open to all TC members, including Reservists. The size of the banner should be similar to the current one, but that's not particularly important. All submissions should be sent to spellfire@btinternet.com zipped and with the email subject "TC Banner".

You have until 26th January to get your submissions in. The designer of the selected banner will receive the Iron Star - Gold Ribbon, with further awards going to other submissions.

Overview - The LO primarily acts as the EH archivalist, ensuring that certain materials such as newsletters and the EH codex are up to date and accessable at all times. Technical ability and an eye to detail in maintaining these archives are key attributes for the position. The Logistics Officer is also responsible for content in the newsletter, such as book/game reviews, etc.

Selection Criteria - Essential
1. Good written communication skills
2. An acceptable level of presence in online media such as IRC, message boards, etc.
3. Fast Email response time
4. The ability to work with a wide range of EH personnel, including the Executive Officer
5. The ability to work to extreme deadlines

Selection Criteria - Desirable
1. HTML experience (ASP/PHP is a bonus)
2. Awareness of Star Wars events and happenings outside the EH

Immediate duties for the successful candidate will include the updating of the EH Codex and other historical archives, as well as the acquisition of webspace to host the various files from.

You must address each criteria with supporting evidence. Simply saying "Yes, I can do that" will not be enough. Include specific examples of your experience. You should meet at least the essential criteria to be considered for the position. You will be expected to perform the core duties as listed and if you are unwilling to perform them, don't waste time by applying. You must include at least three (3) references. At least one must be a current or former superior (preferably current). Ensure you have their permission first. If it is found out that you did not gain permission, this will reflect upon your application in a negative light. Applications should be sent to the Fleet Commander (garonin@aol.com) and Executive Officer (jpboyce@indigo.net.au) with the subject "Application for Logistics Officer".
